LOD Distances Textures Downgrade in Latest Beta

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed the visual downgrade in LOD distance for textures in the latest beta release? As soon as you get not very high, the ground textures become much reduced in quality and very blurry. This makes the ground textures look much worse than before.

You can see in this video just raising the drone camera a tiny bit off the ground makes the textures go blurry (look at the ground markings). This is clearly only a few hundred feet off the ground so it is much worse than this at flying altitudes.

This is PC btw, ULTRA preset.

You can see the ground markings losing detail between the two camera positions.

I don't recall seeing this before.

It is not just drone camera either, even it normal cockpit view, and depends on distance as well as height. Now when I approach airport I can see all the runway marking blurry and lacking in detail until I get very close when they then become detailed again. I had never seen this until this latest beta update.

It's the way it's been for pretty much ever.  It's possible they made it more noticeable for performance reasons but it's always looked bad.  I made a comparison post a month ago or so lemme see if I can find it

I couldn't find the post but here's the pics

If you zoom way out you can't really tell.... but zoomed in it's clearly an issue

I've noticed how great the loading screens' scenery looks compared to mine inside the sim. I have a decent rig but can't attain the visuals I see while the sim is loading.

To me the loading screens looks word not allowed compared to what I see in the sim because of the way they zoomed when capturing those shots...

nothing new, always been that way. closer u get to the ground more blurier,  fly at 2,500 ft usually are the best results for clarity.

increasing your tlod will help, but then again this will reduce your fps...

I guess they are reducing LOD to make the sim usable for Xbox users who can't upgrade their GPUs and CPUs like PC users can.  It's a burden we may have to carry for a long time.

It is hard to understand why they cannot have a few settings that can deviate, depending on the platform that is being used..

Do they not want the XBox experience to be less than the PC experience?  😉

Read the posts above, that is not what happened here, it's been like this for a long time.

Uh 100% no. PC already has settings X-Box doesn't.

For example X-Box can't change the model verity in Multiplayer/Online traffic.
X-Box doesn't have DLSS.

X-Box can't adjust graphics settings at all period, and is not running on the PC equivalent of all ultra.

All that important stuff, lol.  I think what Bert was hoping for is that the PC Ultra could just be a little more....Ultra. I have a pittance of a PC these days and I feel for those who have the horsepower, and desire more from the sim.

Reducing and managing LOD's and drawcalls is a perfectly acceptable, needed strategy.  But when you have taxiway signs/lights, buildings, AI landing gear, etc, etc  popping in before your very eyes, and yet there are trees objects needlessly drawn into dense oblivion along with road traffic objects that repeatedly zag no where and back in a hurry,  I wonder if we aren't simply peeing in our pants to keep our LOD's warm............

Even with tlod 400 you will get the issue.....

I think that is because DLSS is an Nvidia process only available for Nvidia cards, and Xbox uses AMD based cards.
