February 14, 20233 yr I've seen my 3090 using 16-18 GB VRAM at some situations even with my 3440x1440 screen. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
February 14, 20233 yr I use a RTX 3080 FE 10GB VRAM and a Intel 9900K. Samsung 43 Zoll TV , settings to 4K I fly with very high settings an have a smooth MSFS. I am not personally affected by this discussion at all. There you go Glenn: I run 1440p also and see VRAM use close to 12Gb, you don't since you're at 8Gb, and yet you're not seeing stutters. This suggests to me there is some strategy being exploited to avoid a performance hit when VRAM is maxing out--using System RAM in some fashion has a cache or what have you. It's possible that algorithm exploits more VRAM when it's available, hence you see guys like RobA report VRAM in use over 19Gb at one point early in in MSFS with his 3090. Perhaps it's really only manifested w/ VR which might be handled very differently by algorithms. February 14, 20233 yr Author I notice that in some sceneries ( FS Studios CYVR ) both in MSFS and P3d is a VRAM hog (much more than FlyTampa or Flightbeam). Maybe developer not optimizing memory? on my single 1440p monitor, i can get 12-13GB or VRAM on the PMDG or Fenix. As long as i can get 40+ FPS with the Fenix , landing at EGLL and KLAX with some AI traffic , i am a happy camper. Saw some videos with a 13th Gen I9 and 4080/4090 with PMDG/Fenix and heavy scenery and holding 50+ FPS ..... This frame generation is a complete game changer it looks like . Just don't want to run in to a VRAM wall rendering my GPU useless! 24 GB is very future proof , just in case i want to upgrade to VR or 8K monitor in the future Edited February 14, 20233 yr by planechaser spelling

If 24Gb is good, how much better is 100Gb of VRAM in terms of performance esp in a main thread limited title? I hope some day cloud resolution goes well up to get into that upper tier of 24Gb VRAM capacity because w/o something new like that I've had no evidence the 12Gb I have now ever causes a performance blemish. I guarantee you if someone swapped in 24Gb while I'm asleep tonight I won't notice one iota of difference on my next flight. February 14, 20233 yr Your only running a 9900K which has about the same performance as a 13th gen i5 laptop (I run a 9900K myself) and are only using a single 4K screen. With a 3080 as well, that is a really nice setup that should run the game really well. However, no-one one would expect you to have VRAM issues with that setup, even if you took LOD and render scaling up to 400 or something. The simple fact is 99% of users will have no issues with 12GB of VRAM and buying a 4090 just to get the extra VRAM would be stupid and a total waste of money. That does not mean that no-one else will have issues. Edited February 14, 20233 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick
