February 14, 20233 yr Wondering if it's just me or are we all still having ATC issues where it just stops working in mid flight. Either you loose communication one way or the other or it just get's stuck and goes silent. This started back in November with the 40th Anniversary release.😕 Edited February 14, 20233 yr by Dillon FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VRÂ
February 14, 20233 yr I use PF3 for my ATC . never have any issues going on 7 years now. 😉 Edited February 14, 20233 yr by Bobsk8   Â
February 14, 20233 yr Doesn't bother me, as I fly all my approach and landings according to the charts. For a while, I switched over to Prof Flight ATC SR - waste of money.Â
February 14, 20233 yr I'm noticing that - its seems to get stuck. I can often unstick it by clicking the right-hand freq pane and then back to the left, and it picks itself up again. However it often fails to give me sensible vectors to final. That happens if I'm on a filed IFR flight ("expect vectors" but none are forthcoming) or if I specifically ask for them, as if it can't get to the end of its queue.

It seems to be connected to having the copilot ATC assistance switched on. I like to use this on longer flights to automate the frequency switching. Yesterday I kept it turned off and handled the ATC myself and I didn't have any problems with it going silent. Overall, the stock ATC still has mostly the same problems and limitations it always had. However, I'm finding that with the new Garmin panels, overall it's easier to work around the ATCs limitations because the flight plans and procedures inside the Garmin systems work much more consistently now. Yesterday, I had a great night IFR flight in the modded Cirrus SR22. ATC assigned me a proper approach with transition (didn't put any SID or STAR in the flight plan beforehand, just the destination) and also assigned the correct altitudes for the descent. The only problem was I had to ignore the order to descent for a few minutes until I reached my Garmin TOD and VNAV took over. Edited February 14, 20233 yr by Der Zeitgeist
February 14, 20233 yr One problem I've been having with ATC is filing an IFR flight plan with ATC after creating it in the avionics (e.g., WT G1000). Sometimes I get the option in the ATC window and other times I don't. Otherwise, I'm currently okay with ATC.
February 14, 20233 yr Yes still happens to me occasionally.  Definitely much less than I used to…there was a patch of time there where I lost ATC every flight. I also occasionally get the issue where there are no options for me to select in the ATC menu, as if it’s waiting for me to do something but not letting me do it. February 14, 20233 yr I haven't had it stop for some time (and certainly not since the last update), though when it did it was still present graphically. Overall, It has improved but has limitations. Some airport's seem to have more options for approaches and others give me no options at all (such as changing runways due to changing weather conditions, etc.) Randall Rocke
February 14, 20233 yr Losing one-way  ATC still happens occasionally but I did not see any pattern yet, usually on long(er) haul flights above 2 hours, seemingly also when lots of traffic (MP, Real Traffic and FSLTL) is around like ATC cannot keep up with all the instructions and goes silent. Always able to hear my copilot though, so I will try with ATC assistance off next time and see whether it makes any difference Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
February 14, 20233 yr I have many ocurances of only hearing the copilot responding to atc. But today both atc and copilot had no audio. The text still appeared in the atc window. I sure wish these atc problems could be fixed. Jim Â

Jim Unexpected that it hasn't been prioritized a bit more but I am seeing some improvements overall but still some glaring shortcomings.  It's doing really well interacting w/ local RT traffic.  It frequently will give a go-around to the RT flight ahead of me presumably favoring the user over RT AI traffic which is great.  It's rare for me to get a GA now.  One area pet peave present since FSX and I mean to put it in as a wishlist FWIW:  when one overshoots an altitude step and continues to climb and ATC wants you to go down to the missed altitude before immediately then telling you to climb to X well above where you currently are.  I would like ATC to look at surrounding traffic to allow this and if no conflicts it might state, "Ok to climb to X", or to give the user a chance to request climb direct to X.  The audio going out happens but rarely and one time in the past week. February 15, 20233 yr I don’t and I was having ATC issues religiously on every flight until SU11. Dillon, what’s the departure airport when this happens? Or is it all over the place? Jacek G. February 15, 20233 yr This can also be connected to the sim thinking you haven't carried out the last instruction in some cases. For instance if ground sends you to parking X, but you don't know where that is because MS and real world parking stands have different designations and you end up at parking Y, ATC will ghost you, and there's no way to tell ATC "just let me taxi for takeoff again." It wouldn't surprise me if there's are some scenarios where this can happen in the air as well.
