XP12 isn’t a game

It is indeed. P3D, MSFS, XP12 are all games.

I’ve been looking forward to an A330 so as long as initial reports come back decent I’ll buy this.  It likely won’t be very expensive and in an airliner I’m fine with modelling things in terms of a typical flight.  I like to save my risk of failures for GA.

Not a fan of Aerosoft but I’m not about to cut off my nose to spite my face if this proves to be a decent addon.

PMDG/FSLabs/Leonardo are high fidelity but there will never be a true study level ever in MSFS or XP12  for that you need a Level-D sim. MSFS and XP are games

I think everyone know that MSFS/XP/P3D aren't Level-D, but withing the context of those sims, the meaning is clear enough, especially give that we're discussing it ion a flight sim forum that has forums for all of the above, but no Level-D forum.

I will pass this one, I will just continue using the free Headwind A339 which is awesome

The Headwind would be more awesome if it used the Expiramental build for FBW. The complete lack of any VNAV is a downer.

It is why I will probably pick this one up. I have a secret hope it's possible to block out the windows for a cargo variant.

Agree, the lack of VNAV is the major downside. However I'm doing fine so far with the TOD calculation on the EFB + the TOD estimation from Simbrief, so far I had no issues in planning my descent. And I don't expect to have a brilliant VNAV with the Aerosoft version either, let's see.

If the Aerosoft version is close to the FBW experimental version, I think I will be happy. I don't want the full failure modes, etc.

We will see. I know they are going to the streamer pre-release so it will be interesting to see.

Boy, I sure hope it's not just close to, but beyond a freeware project... please don't reward Aerosoft if it isn't.

The reason I phrased it like that is while the FBW is freeware, it's close to payware quality. They have really exceeded a lot of expectations.

XP12 isn’t a game

Woah!  Popcorn Tiiiiiiiime!

I don't know why we can't all agree on something rather than have this perpetual argument.
For XP11, XP12, FSX, MSFS, or P3D, I wouldn't class any of them as games, or 'simulators', as that can elude to the proper pilot training hardware.
I would prefer to call them all 'Flight Simulation Software', and they are all good in their way, surely we can all agree on that.
Microsoft themselves prefer to call it a 'title', whether it is on the Xbox or not.

As for the A330, there are a lot of us that don't have the time to learn a full 'study level' or 'high fidelity' aircraft, and I would expect this to be about the 45 Dollar / Euro area, so we can't expect too much.

And with MK, as much as I don't like his attitude a lot of the time, I think he is right about this and the level he is pitching it at.
I will decide at the time whether to buy it or not, and I am also waiting to see what happens with the Twin Otter they recently took off sale and due to be reintroduced.
As a current Twin Otter customer, this may go a long way to influencing my decision on the A330.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I'm not quibbling with MKs decision not to go *cough*SL*cough* with that offering, rather his pretence that the reason is that the term is too vague. If he doesn't want to go down that route then he's entitled to not do so and the initial reasons, which are the same as those given when the FSX Airbus was released, are valid by themselves. So he's only going to a certain depth. Fine. His game, his rules.

As regards  FSX/MSFS/P3D being games, I've never won a game of flight sim. II've never lost one either. 😁

The term only is an issue when trying to define it in a way as if one would be trying to come up with a dictionary definition. Even a default FSX Cessna would be study level in that case because one could still use it to study the very basics of instruments or flight controls. By the same logic, it could be said even a level-D sim isn't study level because even that falls short in some areas of a real aircraft. So then one might say only a real aircraft is study level... you see where this is going.

But within flight simming the issue around the term is entirely man-made and it's pretty clear what people mean by it, i.e. the simulation of systems beyond basic A to B á la PMDG, Fenix, FSL, etc. Mr. Kok is just being intentionally word not allowed here (sounds harsher than I mean it) because he knows exactly what people mean and I'm sure pretty much all simmers know as well. The term may be unfortunate in the exact words used but it's being unnecessarily overcomplicated.

Out of curiosity, what was the longest flight time you were able to achieve in MFS so far?

MSFS 9hrs 30 mins KIAH-SCEL (INI Airbus A310) though I just usually fly the Maddog MD-82 for 2hrs a couple times a week

FSX 14Hrs KIAD-OMDB (PMDG 777) 2 times without an OOM (out of memory error).

If it's anything like the P3D version it's a definite pass for me.
