I did a flight in the -72. This plane desperatedly needs a manual. My knowledge of ATR is limited to the old Francisco Sánchez-Castañer panel for FS8/FS9, and it's been more than a decade since the last time I flew it. While I knew about the power mode switch, I didn't know about the notch until later in the flight. Apart from that, I found 5 issues during that flight (with my personal score for each):

1) (Major) With the AP ON, altitude capture was around 300 ft off. I'll try with another flight.
2) (Somewhat tolerable) EFB payload manager... but someone mentioned it already.
3) (So-so, but applies for few people) MCDU didn't recognize SIDs and (possibly) STARs for SKBO. With both AIRAC 2209 (not bothering to update) and the default MSFS one (i.e. Navigraph removed from Community folder).
4) (Tolerable) I can't use my current button bindings for external lights.

And 5), but that one is more for FSDT: GSX refuses to service the plane while Hotel mode is active.

Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

Another thing I noticed, lights are not visible during the day, even landing lights.

My EFB froze during flight.  Parking brakes stopped working after landing, weird.

Well, I’m lucky enough to have flown on the prototype 3 times in my 48 years -

1) American Eagle ATR-72 from O’Hare to Madison, WI about 1991 after a weekend wedding trip to Cincinnati that also included a ride on a AA F-100’s second revenue flight!  I felt so airsick on the way to Madison I almost lost my love of planes entirely.

2) As a young in career forecast analyst getting beaten by customer Wal-Mart in Bentonville, AR my biggest worry all day was the return flight via St Louis on a “Trans World Express” ATR...to my amazement it DIDN’T make me airsick!  Side note got to ride on the Pride of TWA MD-80 to Chicago.  My one and only experience with TWA but proud to have ridden on them.

3). Years later, I took off in a Jet Airways ATR into a violent thunderstorm from a swamped and mosquito-filled Aurangabad, India (old terminal) bound for Mumbai and again was pleased at how smooth and fast it was despite the weather.

All now years ago but ai have an affection for this plane - test flights good so far...how does one load up the flight plan generated in game into the plane to follow though?

At my discounted rate a must-buy and Repaints already rolling in,

Steve

This isn't an "expert" level plane or whatever Asobo wanted to call it. It took me all of 2 minutes to completely break it and uncover bugs/issues that are blatantly obvious. And now, at $20, we'll never see a truly good ATR in flight sim because they've crowded out the market with this Xbox fodder.

Did a cold and dark start up and departure tonight, no time for a full flight that will have to wait until tomorrow.  Some initial thoughts:

- Payload page of the EFB is something I couldn't figure out.  Perhaps it's a bug but I had dashes for ZFW, Total fuel, gross weight, CG, T/O trim.  I couldn't figure out how to populate these figures.

- I was able to calibrate my TQ6 throttles without issues.  I couldn't get my condition lever to go down to feather though.  The spoiler axis didn't work either.

- Sounds are good.  Not mind blowing, but good.

- The prop animation could use some love, it looks pretty static.

- No issues climbing on VNAV / LNAV.  I saw others reporting an issue with the aircraft saying to select LNAV, I think that's just basically telling you that you cannot select VNAV without LNAV being selected?

All in all there are a few things that irked me a bit...but man it was $17 Canadian.  My lunch today was $15.  For 3 times that you could buy a less functional E175.  I've spent must more money on much worse addons over the years.  It's not a perfect addon, but it's something I'm going to have a ton of fun with.

I'll look forward to some fixes, but in the meantime I'm just going to have fun flying it.

It took me some time to figure it out. You put fuel and zero fuel weights in FMC and then it automatically populate EFB

Thanks I'll give that a go tomorrow.

So many people raving about the low price, but forgetting that it is only possible because it is basically sponsored by income generated from taking a cut of every Marketplace transaction. Meaning it kills competition because other developers can not compete on price and Asobo puts out an inferior product that saturates the market by low pricing.

Even if Blackbird would continue now with their ATR, seeing that they could maybe do a much better job for example, most of the users just see two ATRs, one more expensive than the other, so it would be a hard sell for Blackbird. People, low price is not always good, I'm telling you.

After a steep learning curve I like it more and more. I'm not sure how accurate all systems is but over all it flies pretty good. No problem with LNAV and VNAV. Sure I would like to hear from ATR drivers especially RW ops procedures and flows

I don't understand what is meant by the VNAV/APP bug? Does this mean you can't do an ILS approach using the autopilot?

Really? BlackBox makes default aircraft better and it works for them. Milviz made PC-6 which pretty competitive with existing Asobo PC-6.

I wouldn't know. I fly all my approaches by hand in any aircraft. It's a most satisfying and fun experience sim can give!   LOL

My question is how does it compare to the old ATR72-500 that ported over from FS9 to FSX?  Everything pretty much operating similar to the ole 500?

                                                    Happy Landings

Is anyone else having issues crashing the FMS?

Not doing anything too advanced, I just managed to lock up both FMSes in the Airways page, just by adding an airway...
