iFly statement on V6

Hi iFlyers,

In light of the recent announcement made by Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D team with regards to the upcoming version 6 we have been receiving questions about our NG & MAX Advanced Series product ranges’ compatibility with this new simulator.

No, the NG/MAX is not compatible with Prepar3D v6.

It requires a rework of the model, textures, effects, gauge displays, PBR and more.

We are currently in development with the MAX for MSFS 2020, as you are aware, that is our main focus now.

We plan to make the NG/MAX compatible with v6 but MSFS 2020 takes precedence.

We cannot provide a timeline for the P3D v6 compatibility or if this would be a paid upgrade at this time.

Happy iFlying!

This is exactly what I was afraid of:

Not enough revolutionary changes that bring a portion of the community back to P3D, but enough changes that mean developers would need to undertake more than just an installer update.

Not that I really mind about iFly because all I really need is the PMDG and FSLabs birds to fly, but still, this is not good news for consumers on P3D

No problem waiting, glad they have plans for V6 compatibility.

The good news is that you can still fly it in v5 for as long as you want without a forced update that will break a bunch of stuff.  Heck, I still have v4.5 installed for some add-ons that never made the trip to P3Dv5.

The lack of forced updates was always one of the most strong points with p3d.

Are you implying that the P3DV6 updates will be forced? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere yet, just that the updates will be easier.

Cheers

No, he's making a comparison to MSFS.

I thought I heard "backwards compatible" mentioned on twitch.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

Since iFly 737AS/MAX is native P3Dv5 aircraft, unlike many that's port from v4 with modification, It's really a bad news even it won't compatible with v6 "out of box"

The ifly max really is a solid plane. Great systems and the modeling is also fantastic. I Haven’t flown the ngxu from pmdg since I bought the ifly in January.  I hope the v6 version is an easy update for them so we get it soon.  Depending on what LM brings with V6, I’d happily pay the price to ifly for them to continue supporting P3d.

Depends what you mean by forced updates the recently announced MSFS 2024 is not a forced update MS2020 will continue to be supported and even within MS2020 there are many updates  that are not forced.

I read the use of the word 'forced' here to mean compulsory in the context of starting up the sim and being able to ignore any updates.

P3D allows users the choice to upgrade to the new v5.5.

In MSFS, if users want to even reach the front menu, they have to install the mandatory update packages, AAU2, SU12, AAU1, SU11, SU10, etc.

And also one of its week points. If everyone is on the same version, finding bugs and making improvements will be much easier for the developer. And also for 3rd party developers…

I really don't know if that's true. Enough people here stating they are still using older versions. I'm still on 5.3 HF2, and at the moment I'm on the fence concerning 5.4, as my sim works fine...
