July 21, 20232 yr A layman's question... Is there any practicable benefit, relative to MSFS user experience performance, in switching from Windows 10 to 11? Mine is a I7 8700k (4,7 GHz) / 32GB / 1080 ti system with a 49" g9 monitor. All of my flights are GA VFR with the occasional light corporate mission. Any advice in "layman's language" are really appreciated, Many thanks everyone, Brian Edited July 21, 20232 yr by aatd clarity
July 21, 20232 yr Probably a few advantages, but one you may find of interest if you use it is that W11 manages HDR a lot better than W10. Others may chime in with a few pros and cons though so far I am unaware of there being any disadvantages to using W11 which will have a longer shelf life than W10. I switched from 10 to 11 a while ago and personally haven't found any issues and of course the upgrade was free. July 21, 20232 yr Author Thank you CianPars, for your response. It sounds like there is no downside, but my understanding (??) is that the 1080 ti gpu is unable to generate HDR; that this is something that only became available with the 20xx series gpu's. Does anyone know if this is a true understanding? Brian

July 22, 20232 yr Windows11 + DirectX12 = better CPU task scheduler => smoother fps, you can see that in task manager how CPU cores are being used more evenly than with Windows 10. "A tangible benefit of Windows 11 is a process scheduler that knows about the assymetric ("big-little") cores in Intels 12th and 13th Core CPUs (and AMDs). It can schedule threads better than Win 10 and thus make better use of the resources. July 22, 20232 yr No disadvantages of Windows 11 in MSFS. There are some disadvantages in Windows 11 menus, taskbar, toolbar, file explorer. July 22, 20232 yr Didn't notice any performance difference with MSFS. Took a little getting used to when I made the switch recently and had to switch off settings that were trying to recommend various apps, etc. but overall I prefer it to win 10 now.
July 22, 20232 yr Only place you'd see any potential performance benefits is with newer, top-end hardware due to improvements to the CPU scheduler. I also know there's some minor improvements to multi-monitor setups as Windows 11 uses a newer WDDM version, so it handles it more gracefully, especially when two monitors of different resolutions / refresh rates are used. But outside of that, it's essentially just a slightly upgraded Windows 10 with a slightly worse interface -- In my opinion. Especially their new start menu. Though I've solved that by using Start11.
