Steam has its own issues with MSFS lately, the verify file/restore function will pretty much nuke important folders somehow and confuses the MSFS server into thinking you need to install everything over again.

While Steam does let you choose locations and folder name, the MSFS installer itself within the sim has its own way it wants your file architecture layed out.

There are issues I'm starting to see with Steam and MSFS as well, where there's confusion about "SteamLibraryApp" and Steamapp/common" the MSFS installer will make duplicate copies of Official folder.

So overall from my experience there can be potential install issues anytime you want to install MSFS outside of it's traditional common go to path of AppData folder on my C drive using Steam.

This is from my personal experience...

Thanks for all the info. The whole update and install process just gets worse over time. The microsoft way of requiring xbox/gaming/store apps in order to use or install the sim, and wanting install of large program in your system appdata folder is maddening. A little 9gb update that takes almost a day on fiber service?

My initial try of the reinstall let me put program on my sim drive, but then as you say once I opened the sim it wanted to use the appdata location. The program didn’t know that the install was elsewhere? What kind of morons are in charge over at microsoft?

I’m going to try one more time on a new ssd that I’m waiting for. I love the sim but there is a limit to what I’m willing to put up with. I hate to do it but if my next try doesn’t work, I’m out of the sim until the new version.

I updated to SU14 today in just 12 minutes (Premium Deluxe) and that is including the additional Content Manager updates. The SU came in with the maximum speed of my connection (200mbit/s) but Content Manager started at 2 to 3mbit/s. It recovered along the way.

After that I did a 1 hour flight in Iceland to check the new WU update and I liked it. Not a single stutter, also not at approaching an airport (Reykjavik). But then again, Iceland is not packed with much autogen. 🙂

Verify/restore resets the files to how they are on the Steam server.

The sim itself installs/downloads the files, not steam, so steam doesn't see them as being part of the original install and deletes them.

It does this with every game on the platform. If you were to say, install Fallout 4, mod it and then run verify, it would delete all the non-game files you installed, and replace any modified base files.

I have mods in many Steam games and none of them redownload the entire game when I Verify them. MSFS is unique in that it does, which is why Verifying should be avoided at all costs.

Bingo!🎯

MSFS is a special case, and can be a nutcase at that in this particular situation!🤣

Anyone else getting invisible aircraft in multiplayer (all players selected) since the Update?, I can see nameplates but the actual aircraft are invisible

I've come to the conclusion that SU14 has had a bad affect on FPS and performance for me, benchmarks are one thing to show a loss but flying generally I'm noticing a decrease of 6-8fps and that's after I've lowered in game settings to what I had with SU13 😒

Even with no mods at all there's a significant loss, this after a reinstall and no change with GPU driver.

Disappointing.

its to get the kids into the store to buy stuff.   its about money.  nothing more, nothing less.hence why every so often that advert box pings up on the right of the screen trying to sell you something in the store.

Have you seen the thread about hyper threading and the benefits of turning it off?

Yep already turned off, regardless nothing changed between the Sim Updates so it's deffo a regression.

Just wrapping everything up with the new install lets see, it took me 16 hours total from scratch all the way to installing every DLC out of content manager.

Either the installation download speeds have crippled, or I've totally forgotten just how long it takes to download and install 140 GB of vanilla MSFS.

Restoring my Community folder mods now (517GB) and I should be set to experience SU14 for the first time.

With this whole SU14 installation ordeal, I went to check my assistance settings and to my surprise they weren't reset out of all things that went haywire.🤣

Second try of reinstall was successful last night. Don't know what was fixed or how but the 137gb mandatory update took 1.5-hrs, the 59gb of 13 world updates another 1.5-hrs, another hour for my minimal amount of DLC. Then came several hours with payware, updating utility paths (ms insisted install went in an "xbox games" folder), getting settings back to somewhat the same as what I had, etc. Before next big update I will be imaging my system and sim drives for sure. This was several wasted days, but very happy sim is back.

Yup did a first flight in SU14 last night, I can honestly say the same I lost about 6-8 fps in VR with the same SU13 graphic settings and also I've noticed an increase of scenery loading.

Brief hourglass spinning slight pauses while in flight I had maybe 4 or 5 of them, once Freeport, Bahamas came into render range. Usually I only get those load pauses in super heavy urban cities like Las Vegas,

This update was certainly a flop on FPS, but I have noticed a little and just a little more smoothness overall.

Yep this go around I told MSFS install to STAY OUT OF MY C DRIVE COMPLETELY!😬

I moved and installed everything into my new 2TB SSD (F Drive). This sim is just getting too big and complex to share the same drive as my OS.

Funny you should say that my last flight was smooth as butter, there's certainly something to do with the servers affecting performance I think as I've witnessed similar before.

I've gradually bumped the settings back up to what I originally had, still lower FPS than SU13 but if that smoothness continues then that's a good thing. It's just frustrating as I can't pinpoint why or what they did via the change log to suggest losing FPS, we're not the only ones either.

I did the same, and all on a new 2tb ssd. But even though I could choose the drive it still insisted in folder called xbox games.
