PMDG Dev update 01/27/2024 More 777 Previews

Featured Replies

The response is poor customer service, period end of question.  But gosh it seems like no matter what he says it gets trashed. I'm sure on a personal level, a self confident successful pilot and thereafter business person probably has a hard time dealing with all the negative comments.  Especially when you see your most recently released product be voted the top airplane add on this last year in a community wide survey.  I'm sure that is causing a huge disconnect there and a feeling of being persecuted unfairly.

While I think PMDG needs to innovate, add in better LNAV to keep up with the other developers out there, we also have to be realistic about running a business.  New LNAV brings in very miniscule $'s.... vs updating your existing 777 and 747 code to MSFS which brings in $$$$$$$$$.  Considering according to PMDG they are a much bigger team now, that also means much more reoccurring overhead and staffing $'s needed.  Focusing resources on LNAV as #1 priority right now doesnt likely make business sense if your looking at outgoing monthly costs and your P&Ls.  I would expect LNAV to be done after the 747 honestly....  There is too much low hanging fruit for them before that honestly.  Plus the fact that it seems the FS community loves to forgive missed commitments and buy the next best thing no matter what.  There is likely hardly any financial downside to PMDG not keeping promised commitments in regards to future sales release #'s.

Robert got himself into this mess though, promised 777 P3D cockpit update, LNAV etc. and when it wasn't in his business's best financial interests to do it he pushed the can down the road.  At this point he will likely never do the 777 P3D upgrade.  He definitely isn't the first company to ditch previous commitments   He likely just needs to stop promising things that aren't included in the initial release that way he can make the next best business decision without concern of previous promises in a FS landscape that seems to be changing more and more rapidly.

More examples (as if we need more in FS) that you should buy a product for what it is NOW not for what is promised to come.

You just know they are going to try their best to milk the cow with this one. The -200LR/F will be released first even though most want the -300ER. They will drag their feet and wait another 4-6 months before releasing the -300ER to milk anyone that gets inpatient about wanting a 777 yesterday. They know if they release the -300ER first sales of the -200LR/F will be low. I’ve got nothing but patience so not giving in to those sales tactics.

True.  Like the old saying goes.  How do you know a pilot is in the room?

Just be quiet and he will tell you

I appreciate the irony in saying this but as an airline pilot, the PMDG 'style' of communications would earn you a pretty solid reputation at my outfit. He is obviously a real pilot but reading some of the posts over there I always like it's people doing bad impressions of how a pilot talks......

In other news I can't say that those screenshots look very impressive. They look like FSX.

Curious, is RSR an airline pilot?

PMDG is the KING of Boeing for MS and P3D period they can do whatever they want and until some other company steps up to challenge them (not likely) they will always get away with whatever they release (finished or not) and us simmers have to accept it or move on. Complaining on their forum or on Avsim is not going to change that. @2reds2whites saying the 777 textures look like FSX maybe you need to go and get your eyes checked its not even close to FSX still not as good as some other textures on other aircraft for MSFS though.

I believe he used to be. Don't quote me on this but I think he was on the 777 too.

747 also in a interview the 747 is his favorite of the PMDG product line.

You realize this is just a $70 desktop “simulator” for entertainment purposes?

don’t get the constant obsession from “type rated” dudes harping on this in posts after posts on avsim. Best to go to the devs forum or use their tix to lodge a formal complaint, more likely to get a better outcome than complaining about it here.

Separately, that post asking about rf legs for 737 in a 777 update… that was akin to trolling. Which predictably resulted in drama here and elsewhere with this usual characters venting their creepy personal grievance against the dev.

He flew the J41 at Atlantic Coast Airlines and then I think he went into a management position at UAL. I do not believe he was ever a line pilot with them although he holds a 747 type...maybe it was required for his role....??  You would not have gone straight to a 747-400 out of class during that period of aviation.

No chance. The texturing is far, far better than anything seen in FSX.

Thanks I had the same thought but was thinking he must be doing something other than working as a line pilot to have time to run a company like PMDG.

I made that post.  It was not trolling, nor akin to it.  It was simply a question, based on something Robert himself told us would happen at some point - that the new navdata would release before, or with, the 777.
