It's not their fault that AI generation is expensive.

And it's absolutely their fault that they chose to go a pathway that costs so much.  Hopefully they guessed right about how many users will pay, and I'm sure there will be some.

I've used Pilot2ATC in the past. Great software, probably on of the best  in terms of handling a FP, the fact that you can update the database with Navigraph is great, (I was a RC user and also own PF

Not everyone wants the same out of an ATC app. Hopefully there'll be a range of products that suits most people's needs 🙂

All AI generation is expensive, there is no least expensive path.

30 dollars is cheap.

I know its still in beta but BATC looked really raw in the stream Easyjetsimpilot had the other day. However One thing that stuck out to me was how he kept saying the areas where vatsim has no coverage you can just fire up BATC. I cant recall any program Ive ever used that was that flexible. Over the years ive used Radar Contact, Pro ATC and I tried Pilot2ATC for MSFS. All of those programs needed you to start the controlling on the ground. It would be pretty cool if BATC is able to function without that requirement

I don't believe that's true for P2ATC. I've seen Dave mention that you can load up the flightplan, file it and then check in with your altitude for it to pick up where you are. At least that's my recollection.

....and it's more expensive than a pack of gum.  I once mentioned I would pay to use MSFS on a subscription basis and of course the uproar was substantial.  And yet one month of BATC costs roughly 1/4 of the of admission to the vastly larger field that MSFS offers that ATC merely one element of the total sim.  I wish the developer well and will be genuinely surprised if it garners a large user base at that price, roughly the cost of two streaming services.  But my perspective is of someone who does not value ATC as much as other areas of the sim.  I use Self Loading Cargo and A Pilot's Life and those programs score a large number of elements of piloting actions and behaviors.  So my goal is to try to execute perfection, and it's challenging with those two apps.   ATC is kind of secondary for me but I can appreciate others will have a very different POV on what ATC means to them.  Still, I'll be surprised if people will pay that much for ATC alone.  We will see AI drop in price like most all techs do so that may portend well for BATC.

Yes that is what I understand too.

At the moment good old P2ATC ticks most of the boxes and will be very hard to beat

You can do that already with FSHud as well. You can start FSHud at any stage of your flight and FSHud will catch up to the current situation.

P2ATC does not control AI traffic, does it?

Saying 30 dollars is cheap is purely subjective, it's cheap if you can afford it and have the money, it's not cheap for those who may have limited income.
