The TFDi MD-11 is now released

Thing is, currently LSAS is essentially doing the opposite of what its whole point is and also makes the plane easier to fly without while it should be easier to fly with it enabled. It's engineered the wrong way, and I'm not sure if that's such an easy and quick fix because it sounds like LSAS would need a rewrite and perhaps even parts of the flight model (I'm no expert however). Turning it off to fly the aircraft in a state which is plain wrong (easier to fly while the real aircraft would be harder to fly) while using extreme reactivity or sensitivity settings isn't the way to go.

It's one of the unique systems to augment some of the unique flying characteristics of the MD-11. That should be done right if your price is higher than other aircraft addons offering higher fidelity. Not sure how this went unnoticed in testing or why it was released without correcting that.

It's the fact that after almost 2 years of pre-order and pre-purchase and an $80 price tag the plane ends up with LSAS upside down and other issues like N1 hunting and pitch oscillations which doesn't instill a lot of confidence for me. Obviously, it's far from unflyable and not necessarily a show stopper, but these issues aren't just the usual after-release issues like forgetting an APU sound file or mirrored textures. Rather, systems and flight model seem to be flawed in certain ways.

Just my 2 cents and I don't mean to "hate" on it. But as someone who's looking for true-to-life behavior and fidelity in aircraft addons, this is a bit of a worry so far.

100% agree. These days for 80 dollars you better deliver an aircraft on a 777 or Maddog level, systems and flight dynamics need to be spot on. The issues you've mentioned plus the stuff they've done during development (that pre-order and pre-purchase stuff 1 year prior to release, which is a singularity in flight simming so far) shows they are a small team with limited ressources that might be overwhelmed by the project, which is to be expected. This doesn't make me feel like they'll fix these things quickly (or ever). But I'd be glad to be proven wrong, since I'd love to have a quality MD11.

It seems to me that what you're miscontruing as raining drama and disillusionment is simply a result of different priorities for different people. What is and isn't a showstopper is completely subject

$85 I’m gonna pass that a lot of money.

Too bad TFDi does not really support VR. The lack of VR focus(zoom) is VERY disappointing, makes things hard to see in such a big cockpit. If i knew this before I would not have bought it. Almost every other add on plane I bought, even the really cheap ones have this feature. VR users speak up to TFDi on their discord.....

The issues you've mentioned (come on forgetting an APU sound file?!)

For the record, those were examples from other releases. A friend of mine mentioned the PMDG 777 lacking APU sound in external view. Maybe this has already been fixed. The mirrored textures happened on a few occasions elsewhere. None of these are in the MD-11. I used them as an example for things that are common in releases and are usually quickly fixed, whereas some of the MD-11's sound like more than that.

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying

TFDI should be ashamed of some of the texture work they've done with the 2020 engine, especially at that price.

I love the plane, but I have to agree with that. Some of the textures are waaaaaay too bad, specially on the exterior model

To me, this is because this began as a P3D project I think and in the middle of the road they decided to also make it for MSFS so the models and textures where just ported from P3D so they're not taking advantage of the MSFS engine at all.

To me its not a deal breaker, but its painful to watch at certain angles

Just look at that!

The devs acknowledge the external model needs serious improvements to bring it up to MSFS standards. I saw they recently opened a job opening for a technical artist, so I hope to see improvements to the exterior model in the future.

For me, the external model is ok and doesn't bother me much. Of course, for a $70 aircraft I expected something better, but it's still far from being a cheap job.

I saw on their discord that they're going to do the exterior model again, from scratch

EDIT: I misread. They said they're NOT going to do a model from scratch. Just improvements/refinements.

Hopefully they won't nickle and dime people for that

Who exactly did you hear this information from? I just saw a message on TFDi's Discord saying they WON'T make a new model from scratch.

Oh my bad! I saw that wrong. At a glance I saw "Its going"

Well they might have found their man because the link is dead now https://invernyx.com/apply/16

I agree with the exterior textures, they’re not good. I do think however that none of the current issues are showstoppers. I’m having a lot more fun with this aircraft than the 777, doing cargo ops in remote, high-altitude areas. Just did another flight in the Peruvian Andes including another RNAV approach. Apparently a fix will be out within the next week or two.

Interestingly, the most outspoken people in this thread seems to be those who don’t have the aircraft. I’d like to hear more from people that have it. But it seems the price and the current issues have perhaps stopped people who are interested in it from buying.
