New and cheaper alternative to Navigraph

The data ref Navigraph is out of date on that page.

Navigraph USED to use LIDO charts, however switched away from LIDO, and moved to JEPP charts for their subscription service.

The text in the article above refers to Navigraph using LIDO, which is no longer correct.

True.

The question, though, was about LIDO vs Jeppesen not about Navigraph vs some other service. Ignoring the dated text of the article, the sample images of a Jeppesen and a LIDO chart for the same ILS approach were quite sufficient to allow one to see the difference between the two. At least it was for me. So I thought it was worth sharing in response to the question that had been asked.

  • I’m quite happy with navigraph but perhaps if anything, some competition will bring the price down a bit.

It looks like a service to keep an eye on. For the moment, I'm happy with my Navigraph subscription but when/if AviaPlanner gets their AIRAC updates in place, if the price remains what it is currently

  • I much prefer Lido charts. Will happily give this a go.  Was really disappointed originally when Navigraph ditched the Lido charts for Jepp

Maybe they will sell charts for a dollar a piece?

maybe they will sell weather, pebbles, clouds, adventures for a few dollars more a piece?

like they are known to have charged for other built-in features in the past?

Expect you probably know this, but Navigraph produces a log file, accessible by doing this:

Press Win + R.
Type %appdata%/Navigraph Charts/logs and press enter.
In the Explorer window that opens, locate the main. log file.

Had a look at mine - mostly gibberish to me, have you looked at yours?

I miss having an easy access to charts but never went with Navigraph that I find too expensive for my particular use of the sim. The new product is certainly more attractive in this regard.

People said that same thing about WordPerfect and Lotus 123, among others.

Wonder what the established automakers thought when they first heard about the upstart Tesla electric vehicles?

Don't forget #3 in the triad: dBase.

Wordperfect, Lotus 123 and dBase.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

I signed up for the free trial.  Charts look fine, but the ‘planner’ is not working at all.  Tried a couple different departure / dest combos KORD-KJFK & EBBR-EIDW….& neither worked.  Sent a note to support, no response as of yet > 24hrs.  Not a good experience so far.

I'm also sticking to my expectations, where I live $100 navigraph hurts a lot.

Only aspects that could from time to time justify buying monthly Navigraph subscription would be navvdata updates for some airliners and using FSHUD...

Would be great if this new alternative could go FSHUD and offer navvdata updates for my pmdg Fênix and fbw

Interesting to see the differences between the LIDO and Jep charts.

For me the Jep charts have the edge in being a little clearer in terms of having all the comms info in the top section of the chart. Also the approach and MAP details are clearly sectioned with the Jep charts making it easier to find/read.
Also interesting to see that the LIDO charts only cover CAT C and D aircraft.

As for the planner, it looks a little bit more awkward to use as compared to Navigraph's planner. For me, being able to adjust the suggested flight plan is something I regularly do because the Simbrief routes which I fly are not typical airline routes, so always require some modification that can easily be done in Navigraph's app.

I will probably try this as a 3-day trial when a few more features are implemented.

On one of A330Driver latest live streams he was asked about AviaPlanner and basically said he thought there was something doggy going on. Didn't clarify why, but certainly was not positive about it. Time will tell.

Only "doggy" 🤣 thing for me was the question raised by the Navigraph CEO at SlightsimExpo2024... Not nice IMO... should have better asked something about the functionality of this new product...

I just deleted my Navigraph account for good... It will impact also Simbrief, I know, but not a major problem for me...

Meanwhile I am planning to subscribe to AviaPlanner.

Should be dodgy of course 😄 Want to do the same, but am waiting to see how AviaPlanner matures first and what MSFS 2024 will bring to the table given their Expo showing. Plus I have always preferred LIDO charts.

Gets no exposure in hanger chat, subscribed for the month at £2.72  charts are great easy to read and having one chart with several Sid/star saves going though pages.  Planner gets you from A to B but simbrief/navigragh is much more detailed.

strange this gets moved from msfs forum when others are allowed slightly off topic.

Squash the competition before it gets going?

Cause Navigraph is sim-agnostic?
