New and cheaper alternative to Navigraph

Flight Sim 2024 is going to have LIDO charts by default, won't have to pay extra.

I wouldn't count on it. Remember when Asobo and Navblue made this claim?

NAVBLUE will provide real-world aeronautical data to Microsoft through its Navigation+ and, post launch, Charts+ services, to support the realistic experience that is the next generation “Microsoft Flight Simulator” software.

  • I’m quite happy with navigraph but perhaps if anything, some competition will bring the price down a bit.

It looks like a service to keep an eye on. For the moment, I'm happy with my Navigraph subscription but when/if AviaPlanner gets their AIRAC updates in place, if the price remains what it is currently

  • I much prefer Lido charts. Will happily give this a go.  Was really disappointed originally when Navigraph ditched the Lido charts for Jepp

For me i think my concern is how flexible the new product is when it comes to flight planning. Ive found navigraph's map overlays of all available sids and stars very valuable when Simbrief either gives me a plan that doesn't quite make sense or MS ATC changes things up mid flight or pre departure and a new departure or approach plate is required to accommodate the changes .

I do because workingtitle demo'ed it already at the recent FSconference, referring to it as "Foreflight-like"

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

"Sections marked with an asterisk are under development and will be available in the next 1-2 months."

that leaves them just 1-2 months until November 19th MSFS2024 which has all this included for free and more (moving map, Notams, weight & balance).

We know that WT is working on an app but do we know the charts and navdata updates will be free?  I don't think that's been confirmed.

just like we don't know if the bllions of new added pebbles will be free or subscription only.

Microsoft/WT never said that charts would be free at the Expo. They said they will make an in-sim flight planer that will work with LIDO charts.

Maybe they will sell charts for a dollar a piece?

Another thing I heard is that LIDO charts are only made to order. So only charts requested by Lufthansa/LIDO customers have been created. I am sure most off the most common airports are covered, but the choice is narrow compared to Jeppeson.

Pardon my complete ignorance (and maybe asking a stupid question), but what are the differences between LIDO charts and ... well ... whatever Navigraph is using?

I am fine with "only" more than 24.000 airports 🤣 considering only 500 towered airports in the U.S:A and 40.000 altogether worldwide.

"With information on more than 24,000 airports, 100,000 airway segments and 200,000 waypoints, the database meets the highest standards of currency, precision and data integrity."

I didn't know the difference either so I did some Googling. I found this article that talks about different chart types and there's a pretty good explanation of Jeppesen and LIDO charts about halfway down the page (with a sample KDEN chart in each format for comparison).

The data ref Navigraph is out of date on that page.

Navigraph USED to use LIDO charts, however switched away from LIDO, and moved to JEPP charts for their subscription service.

The text in the article above refers to Navigraph using LIDO, which is no longer correct.

Generally, I choose to use the Lido charts by Navigraph. The cost is right, the colorful charts are beautiful and easy to use, and I can use them from my phone, iPad, or PC. From the PC desktop application, I can even print them out if I need to.

Glad to see an alternative to Navigraph coming up (other then Aerosoft's now defunct half-baked effort)

I'm actually happy with every aspect of Navigraph's service and don't mind their pricing (as an Navigraph Unlimited subscriber). However, the random but all-to-frequent need to re-authenticate (including mid-flight) is extremely frustrating for me. I get that it might be needed once a month or so, but I am getting this randomly a few times a weekend. I posted in their forums and followed up a few times, but I never got a fix or at least a decent answer. Others are clearly having the same issue.

If the other guys manage to do better then they have my business.

Hmmm, wonder why? I use Navigraph most days, have the unlimited subscription, but apart from hardware changes (new PC), or a new aircraft Navigraph integration upgrade, I never have to re-authenticate.

Must be very frustrating, surprised Navigraph have figured out the reason.

Yes, it’s all very odd. And it’s ongoing still. Navigraph is of course entitled to ask me to prove that I’m a paying customer, but in my case their servers seem to have the recall of a goldfish.
