Active Sky adds another sense and feeling of atmospheric depth to the visuals of the sim especially in VR . I can't fly without it now.

  • Not really. Default weather engine can produce some very nice cloudscapes. There is absolutely no way you get this with activesky. And I definitely did not see the sky filled with CU clouds only

  • Do you like Coca-Cola or Pepsi? Apple or Android smartphones? Ferrari or McLaren? You'll receive many subjective opinions (mine included) and many of these won't match what your own preferences a

Never fly without it. Game changer for me.

MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

Two question though.

1) What is the limit of the historical weather?
2) How about integration with FENIX and PMDG weather, and most importantly, Simbrief weather, if I prefer historical mode?

Seems most like the way it looks, but what about live accuracy vs default? I’ve been an activesky user since FS9 but I’ve also had good luck with default weather so decided to pass after initial feedback.

AS is the best purchase for MSFS I even made beside the Fenix A320. In my opinion far better in cloud variation, cloud layers and overall depiction. Transitions are NOT visible with the right settings. My 2 cents.

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

For low and slow I allways use ActiveSky, but for IFR, or in general, flights above the clouds, I use MSFS Life Weather with ASFS in passive mode.

Never fly without it. Rarely notice the transitions unless I am looking for them. The variances in cloud types and levels are superb.

Another way for IFR flights could be to use Active Mode until about 10,000 feet. Change to Passive Mode for higher levels, so as to see weather fronts and no transitions. Revert to Active Mode for the final part of the descent (at about 10,000 again) to have the more interesting weather depiction all the way to the gate.

That's the downside with ASFS in MSFS, no integration with 3rd party aircraft at all. You cannot use ActiveSky METARs in the Fenix, PMDG or any other aircraft. They will always use live data from the internet.

Simbrief works pretty good, though, just use the historical weather option.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Could you explain? ASFS has a PMDG winds export function although you can only use one plane at a time sadly. I can download winds aloft during a flight for cruise and descent. Are you talking about something else? Are you saying PMDG is not using ASFS but live data?

Winds do work, yes. I was talking about METARs, e.g. in the EFB or FMC. There's no possibility at all to get an ASFS METAR except for using the ASFS window, which kills immersion for me. I especially miss this while doing 777 flights and using the auto-update twip option. This just gives me live data from the internet (in contrast to e.g. historical data from ASFS)

It seems that ASFS did not sell very well, because developers have shown next to no interest to use the ASFS data, which would be really easy to do.

Ah ok thanks. I recall in FSX having more options with the 777/747 and AS16. That would explain it. We seem to be getting less rather than more these days. If it looks pretty, slap a for sale sticker on it.

With Active Sky you have more control over turbulence, and you can tone down the silliness in Asobo's default weather. With default weather, even 6 knot winds can sometimes feel like you are landing in a major storm. A well known issue with default MSFS weather.

All weather options are garbage in MSFS. Thanks Asobo!
