@flyingpaul1980 Hey Paul, I have the DigitalDesign LOWS. Of course I could just compare them myself, but what would you say, which is better? Especially when it comes to ground markings and actual parking spots for the AI.

Hi, I'm not a "professional flightsimmer", so I dont have correct knowledge on what ground markings and parking spots should actually look like.

Nevertheless, I have read from other people in the past, that those are better in the DigitalDesign rendition than they are in RDPresets rendition, and my guess would that digitaldesign would also be more precise than Asobo/Gaya.

Why? Because RDPresets and Asobo cater at the taste of the "normal user", and the normal user wants eye-candy. DigitalDesign is a high quality developer who does not release updates every two weeks, they know what they're doing.

World Update - The New bespoke Airports: A Comparison

This update focuses on the airports of Munich, Salzburg, and Bern-Belp. First of all, I must say that all three airports turned out well. However, it's worth noting that there are Payware alternatives for all three airports from well-known developers, which I "ironically" own. Therefore, I quickly flew around with the drone camera to compare the World Update airports with the Payware airports. The videos are currently uploading and processing, so I'll start with a written review, and the videos will follow in the comments.

Paul

As promised here are my comparison videos, all in 4K resolution:

1.) Gaya Munich vs Simwings Munich:

2.) Asobo Gaya Bern vs Orbx Bern

3a

RDPresets LOWS vs Digital Design LOWS

3b.)

Asobo/Gaya Salzburg to compare with the 2 payware options above

Looking good the Gaya EDDM, but i stay with my Simwings EDDM 🙃

Would be nice u had used Ai Traffic to see what happens with performance, i have FSLTL with my EDDM and this is working fine together, but not using a 100% traffic, i use about 50 to 60% Traffic and that is fine for me.

cheers 😉

Thanks for the vid, you have the same washed out greenish look as I do and you also have the same photogrammetry tree blobs as I do, but you do not use a tree mod, correct? I guess it is more visible in my case because I use REX Accuseason with reduced tree size, in your case it looks as the 3D trees cover up most of the photogrammetry tree misery. But colours still stay. Compare your video to the trailer and the difference is enormous, what a bummer.

I haven't watched the video but I deleted the 3 payware airports before installing the update.

Having tried the 3 new ones, I've now deleted them from the content manager and put the payware ones back.

Personally, I much prefer the payware ones and will be sticking with them.

If that first EDDM is the Gaya one, then something is wrong with my installation of the hand crafted version of the airport. I need to check that out tonight.

Hi Chris, now as you say it: for the Gaya EDDM i made the video directly after the update when i started MSFS from the XBOX app, so my reshade wasnt working and it's greenish. The video of the sim-wings version was filmed in another session that i started with my reshade-plugin, so the tones are more magenta there.

What are you on about?

That's WRONG.

Maybe he forgot to "buy" WU18 from the Marketplace first.

Cheers, Ed

Just go to the content manager and next to the search box are two icons. Search for EDDM and select the 'List' icon, the microsoft version can be uninstalled from there. It's about 2.94GB.

Stu

That's what I did! I have uninstalled plenty of WU airports in the past. It could have been user error except for the fact I doublechecked I was in the right view (that 'list' mode).
Could have been a glitch since I had not restarted MSFS after installing the WU, or else I needed to triplecheck instead.

Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

I have checked the hand crafted version of EDDM Munich again this afternoon, and a few more details were apparent this time...

  • The east side terminal has some nice interior modelling
  • The west side terminal has some degree of interior modelling, but much less than the east terminal
  • The central section buildings and car parks are basically empty shells (not even any cars in the multi level car parks)
  • Those bridge sections (including the ones that aircraft taxi over) are still raised above the level of the adjoining ramps/taxiways/roads

Like I stated previously, I do not expect these hand crafted versions of very large airports to completely match their payware counterparts, but this airport seems to be a case of "reasonable level of detail in some areas, and then curiously empty in others".

Maybe I am just too fussy?

EDIT: I also noticed something else (and the same thing happened when I checked out LSZB Bern last night). My first attempt to get inside the modelled interior worked. I was able to move around inside the building, and see all of the detail. However, once I moved outside, I was never able to get inside again. I suspect that these interior areas are only supposed to be viewed from the outside, but it is a bit of a puzzle that I was allowed in at the start...

How do you know?

Finally, the "August snow coverage" at 30 °C (!) in some valleys of the Eastern Alpes of Austria has been removed.
