My personal pet peeve however is something I saw later at Düsseldorf, also not manned at the time Two landing aircraft were landing in direction 05, and aircraft were departing on 23.

In the real world direction 23 was active at the time. I see this often that people don't look at FR24 to check what the current real procedures are and then just decide on the wind instead of what is correct.

Well not to play the devil's advocate...but If no controller is online, then the CTR is not established, meaning the airspace is uncontrolled, Yes?

Hence there is no "active" runway for that aerodrome on VATSIM.  It's up to the discretion of the PIC, just as in the real world.

Furthermore, unfortunately (depending on the situation) , approaching traffic have always right of way vs traffic on ground,(see "SERA.3210.4 Right-of-way")...no matter how ill-adviced their landing runway of choice might be. If you identify acft approaching while you are ready for departure, you are obligated to give way.

Though , as many times in aviation legislature, just because it's legal doesnt always mean it's contextual proper.

While we're all waiting, I want to give a shoutout to the people at VirtualFRA as well as Aviotek that both provided us with free versions of EDDF. Both of these are vast improvements over the handcra

  • Will be buying this once it's on Contrail. No way I'm buying anything in that awful Aerosoft One thing.

Probably the best addon-airport that was ever done. Nice visuals, almost no performance drain, correct taxiways - wow.

I am VERY impressed.

Just wondering if AI will move in a realistic manner on the ground

If you want that, use PSXT 😉

Seeing that there are now 3 versions of EDDF. Which one is recommended?

Aerosoft, Aviotek and virtualFRA

I left Feelthere off the list as I'm not a fan.

Aerosoft is by far the best.

Aviotek is by far the most affordable while still being quite good (since it was born from a commercial product).

You can decide which factor is more important for you.

Clear for me, the Aerosoft EDDF is just outstanding and i'll be shure after some updates we have one of the best EDDF ever - but thats just my point of view !

cheers 😉

My conclusion:

Pros:

Price completely ok for this hub

Looks great (I also really like it at night)

The hype about FRA has multiplied again on VATSIM 🙂

Cons:

Performance (As soon as I switch on vPilot = connect, the frames drop below 30FPS - then unfortunately it becomes very jerky (I have deactivated everything that works plus no double scenery)

I'm (still) hoping for improvements in this regard - so I'm currently sticking with the freeware from ORBX (as sorry as I am for that, but it's currently unflyable for me),

Markus

Win11Pro - i713700KF - RTX3080Ti

You think this black and white movie is outstanding lighting? You're being disingenuous ))  I think it's very bad lighting for an airport.

Take that up with Fraport and tell them to install more fancy lights. 😉

a) Use better optimized AI models for your modelmatching.

b) Tell people to fly less to Frankfurt, so that it becomes less crowded. 😉

how can it be a pro if you cant use it with vatsim,  and you are using the freeware from orbx.  you just bought a product you cant use pretty much.

its no wonder the standard of addons is so low when you read stuff like this. we are doomed.

Aerosoft for Payware, VirtualFRA for Freeware.

Finally got to see it in-sim and I'm a bit disappointed. Mostly because performance is awful unless most options in the configurator are turned to off. That was on a very good PC (not mine, but still). Awful as in: 20 FPS without traffic. We compared to EGLL from iniBuilds and it was much worse at EDDF... which... I mean worse than iniBuilds's worst performing airport? Come on.
It also had an extremely high VRAM usage (18GB VRAM allocated!), even with textrue resolution set to only high and with 2k.

With the config options mostly turned off, performance was way better, but of course now interiors and people were gone. Weirdly VRAM was still at 17GB allocated... but it performed much better. No idea what's going on, never saw such a high VRAM usage on 2k and texture resolution high, not even close.

Apart from performance, there's other things: The outside looks good (apron, buildings), but not great. Textures are not the best, but okay (considering they already need 18GB of VRAM...). Details are fine.
Interior is where it really falls off: Even with interiors set to "complex", there's no interiors on Terminal 1 at all. And the interiors in Terminal 2 are simply wrong, as in wrong layout / architecture. I mean if you already model "complex interiors", at least do them correctly. (I know EDDF inside out, so I do notice these things of course)

Definitely Jo's worst release overall yet, although still solid and good overall. But if performance and VRAM usage stays like this, I'm afraid I must say that this is not even iniBuilds tier, let alone Pyreguee/FT/Flightbeam etc.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I had that when switching interiors. You have to delete the eddf.dat file in MSFS main folder > SceneryIndexes after switiching settings. Else it seems the cache doesn't update accordingly. Or just use the .bat file inside the EDDF folder (which does the same).
In general: agreed, performance needs to be optimized.
