September 21, 20241 yr Such an upgrade today does not put much strain on the wallet. If it is really necessary.
September 21, 20241 yr I'd be more worried about VRAM. FS2024 • PMDG 738, 77F • FSL A321 • A2A Comanche, Aerostar • BS Baron, Bonanza, Caravan Pro • JF Tomahawk • TAOG H500C BeyondATC • GSX Pro • ChasePlane & Flow Pro • TDS GTNXi • FSUIPC • AutoFPS • RealTurb 9800X3D B650E • ROG OC RTX 5090 • 64GB DDR5-6000 • VKB Gladiator, STECS, T-Rudder • Tobii 5 • ISP 1 Gbps
September 21, 20241 yr This is supposed to work on Xbox so people shouldn't go crazy when it comes to upgrading, I would wait for a reasonable time.
September 21, 20241 yr IMO, vRAM & Internet speed will be more important than system RAM. 32gigs should be good enough for most of us. MSFS
September 21, 20241 yr RAM is the most painless system upgrade. It's not expensive, and is quickly and easily replaced with no effect on software. It's also easy to spot when RAM is a performance bottleneck, so I'll be playing 2024 with all the add-ons before I even think about upgrading. September 21, 20241 yr I built my 2016 fsx pc with 64gb of ram and a few months ago in March my 2024 msfs pc with 96gb. I always future proof my installs and the multi tasking is vastly superior with zero disc caching going on. I guess I'm ready for msfs 2028 😁. No point in posting an expert opinion here anymore, you'll just get shouted down. Whenever someone tells me "you don't NEED" something I do the Homer meme and fade back into the bushes. Are you a DJ or a Musician? Maybe an audio engineer? Just wondering. MSFS

Thanks for sharing. Mainly, thanks for your advice on upgrading to 64 GB. Do you know if it solves the occasional pauses I experience when arriving at big airports? I don't get micro pauses all the time, but it would be wonderful to finally eradicate them from my MSFS 2020. BTW, I was a Club & Mobile DJ for 30 years. DJ/Producer for fun. CFII as a hobby. MSFS

Playing all the old and unknown classics of course lol not the popular stuff. As regards the pauses, my 96GB didn't help with SU15 when it first came out. RAM is the easiest and cheapest bottleneck to remove from a pc build. If the sim PRELOADS data efficiently that helps a lot. Sorry got run family birthday! Russell Gough SE London

I have seen FS2020 use 28GB of RAM with GSX, FSLTL and 3rd party sceneries and the FENIX A320. Hi. Did anything else change, or solely going from 32 to 64 stopped the odd landing stutter etc?
September 21, 20241 yr I'm sure a lot of the basis for the 'Ideal' spec of 64Gb has a lot to do with what your display resolution is, what you run your 'native' rate at, and even what your internet bandwidth is. I also understand one has the option of loading more core sim (like MSFS 2020 does), but not sure how true that is. I run a native rate between 40 and 50fps, 3440x1440 display and run the most complex planes in the most complex airports with GSX, FSLTL, SLC, APL active. NEVER has seen more than 18Gb of SRAM in use in the past 4 years. For my setup I doubt I'll need more RAM but we'll see soon enough and it's a piece of cake and cheap to change if needed. I'm hoping 2024 uses more VRAM as half of mine is asleep most of the time. Before I built a new system last year, I watched MSFS performance videos with 12GB of VRAM in use. It was the main reason that drove me to get a 7900 XT with 20 GB as the 4700 at the time only had 12.
