64 GB RAM ?

And what about VR players? Do we need that much RAM?

That's what I'm debating with myself right now, currently another 32gb of the same RAM (always a good idea to use the same when upgrading alongside existing RAM) is £67, which is cheap but then there's Prime Day in a couple of weeks and of course Black Friday shortly after MSFS24s release.

I'd rather that £67 went on something else so I'm gonna wait until those sales to see if it drops, but of course should the upgrade benefit VR, even in the smallest form, it may well just be worth upgrading anyway after all every little bit of boost helps with VR usage.

  • Especially with DDR5 and AMD, there’s an advantage with 2 sticks vs 4. Basically with 4 sticks it might be hard to run at the same speed and timings. In extreme cases there could be instability issues

  • No one is actually claiming huge improvements.  Most of us are suggesting incremental improvements we weren't expecting adding to overall RAM consumption and MSFS RAM consumption and noticed less micr

Hi,

The graphics upgrades in FS24 will certainly require more resources than MSFS 2020 (although there are those who say otherwise). And with the new memory demands, the 64 GB of RAM will almost certainly be necessary in dense and complex scenarios.
Regards.

Ram is cheap now. I just ordered another 32gb. Can’t hurt anything.

Just installed 64GB. Same manufacturer and, speed, specs, etc.. other than going from 32 to 64. No changes even needed in BIOS. Less than 5 minutes to do.

I ran MSFS 2020 for two years on medium settings with 8 gigs of System Ram - and now I need 64? I don't think so.

Better to put 2x32GB or 4x16GB and in this case I buy exactly the same

I'm more concerned with the CPU requirements for ideal and I am using a 7800X3D - 8 cores (recommended 7900X with 12 cores).  From my understanding, MSFS '24 is supposed to utilize every CPU core available.  Perhaps that is what is causing the need for 64GB RAM?  Just a guess on my part.

9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | X870E Aorus Pro | 64GB G.Skill DDR5 6000MT/s | WD Black 2TB NVMe

As mentioned above, RAM is reasonably priced at the moment.
I have added 2x16GB to the existing 2x16GB which I bought at the worst moment, in 2020.
The first pair were 135GBP, this time, 58 GBP.
Identical paired modules in both cases.

I just ordered 64Gb of RAM. It costs less than MSFS 20204 does.

I have a 7950x3d with 2x16gb ddr5 6000mhz cl30 g skill trident. And a 3080ti waiting for the 5090 to upgrade.

X670f asus mobo i believe .

Should I get the same ram and fill on the other 2 slots?

Thanks.

Same. Has any preview site shown or proven the game is no longer largely single thread limited?

I would honestly take the published CPU Requirments with a massive grain of salt at the moment. There's no coherency to them.

There has been interviews that FS24 will make better usage of a multi-core situation but your 7800X3D is still is still king due to it's extra cache as proven from a multitude of performance data when it comes to both CPU and GPU focused games.

I honestly doubt it. VR is mostly just a matter of how much VRAM you have cause you're rendering 2 screens.

What we need is a separate list of specs for running MSFS 2024 at the three most popular resolutions. I would think this would be a major factor,

Would we really benefit from more than 32GB RAM if we're on a HD monitor?  How much would the specs change for running at 2K? What hardware is needed to run at 4K?

Does increasing from 32 to 64 GB actually makes any difference if your VRAM is less than 12GB, or if your Bandwidth is less than 100 MPS?

I checked amazon and ram upgare and it wasn't as expensive as few years ago. In fact two 32G Corsair Fury where just $148. So I went ahead and bought it. Installed them yesterday. I'm now MSFS 2024 "ideal" ready 🙂

Well, do you think “ideal specs” means run it at medium settings? Most likely not…

im sure you’ll be able to stubbornly run the new sim at your coveted medium settings with your current amount of RAM.
