Is it not the case that the the aircraft and scenery that each one of us uses is downloaded as needed but is stored in local cache for future use, so streaming use would reduce over time if you stick to your favourites ?

I tend to fly all over the place. I did experiment with rolling cache and manual cache but didn't see any difference so I turned it all off. I guess I'm lucky that I've not experienced melting scenery.

Hmm ok, I always get what im supposed to when doing the speedtests and its consistent..

Then the bottleneck is likely to be between your ISP and Microsoft. With a packet analyser you could probably identify which MS server(s) you're pulling data from when problems occur and see if a pattern can be identified.

It is apparently region specific and appears to affect European users primarily. I am in the US, fly approximately 10 hours per week, and have never had the “low bandwidth” error once in 4+ years of using MSFS.

I do occasionally get the “lost connection” message, but it normally reconnects automatically within a few seconds.

Hmm, now that is interesting

Over time, I have seen several other posts primarily by US users of MSFS - (both here and at the official forums)- who have never had a “low bandwidth” message while flying the sim.

It is either something specific to certain Azure data centers - OR something specific to certain third party backbone network providers that interconnect large data centers. The former issue would be something that MS can control - the latter would not.

They use their own fibre network so it is incredibly satisfying that I no longer give any money to BT!

Depends, if they are using our Poles and ducting then it's still revenue for Openreach.

Maybe this has been covered, maybe the 'elephant' has been discussed, if there is info on the forum, then I haven't seen it. SO... one of the biggest issues, IMO, with MSFS2020 has been the constant recurrence of the low bandwidth error message that has been reported time and time again. Has this been addressed by Asobo/MS, or will we still have to tolerate this issue?

Low bandwidth could be many things and not necessarily Microsoft Azure server problem.  In my case it happened to me at some point of time, but I quickly ping all devices connected to my route and realized that problem affect exclusively my PC (where MSFS was installed). I reach out my provider and we basically run test and they prove me that on their end (that include router box I rent from them) everything was dandy! So I turned to search solution to for my "flying machine" - I have searched on internet,  tweaked my ethernet settings, my network adapter setting and etc! Nothing really worked until one time my network driver got updated by manufacturer and my bandwidth problem miraculously solved!

So basically what I'm not saying "low bandwidth" isn't a problem, I suggesting there are a lot of variables between server, internet provider, vpn vendor, router and network adapter!

I have never seen a "low bandwidth" message in MSFS, but I have seen the "disconnected" message quite a few times. The latter is generally followed very quickly by a "reconnected" message, so it is usually not a problem.

I have a pretty unstable connection but I've rarely had an actual problem with the flights. Apart from the photothingy msgs which I've safely ignored.

The bigger annoyance by far is the darn messages themselves obscuring dead centre view with multi colored immersion killing banners I can't turn off. (see my //42 Flow logo problem thread for more details lol!)

My experience is this.  I was getting the message three or four times a week.  I installed Google Map Enhancement and haven't had the message since, and that's been several months ago.

I attribute it to different servers used by Map Enhancement.  The Asobo/Microsoft servers are overloaded.

Why? I haven’t either. Or if I have, it’s not something I’ve noticed. I’m based in Toronto on a 1 Gbps symmetric fiber connection.

I have to say I have not noticed it recently, and also in Toronto. In the earlier days of MSFS it was everywhere and while it did not overly bother me it was quite noticeable. The first feedback I gave when I joined the beta was it would be nice of the CN Tower could not look like an overgrown mushroom, the lakefront was terrible.

But at least for the last 6 months I cannot remember encountering it. As others have said I think there are a lot of factors and it is not only the speed of the connection to ones home. Maybe my ISP did a route change or upgraded equipment.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Yeah maybe in year 1 it might have happened but I can’t remember it being an issue for at least 3.5 years - for me at least.

obviously sometimes the servers are down or Xbox services are down or whatever, but aside from the public outages I haven’t had issues.

Maybe you only fly in good locations?  Try Sand Diego area and to the north - I would be amazed if you don't see melted buildings or obelisk trees.

No, I fly all over the world. Is it possible that there are melted buildings? Sure, maybe. But usually I'm flying and not pixel peeping. I can only say that I have never really seen the major issues others seem to have all the time. I'm happy with the world scenery on a general basis - obviously I know the trees look like broccoli and the sizes can be weird and all that, but I'm not comparing MSFS to real life and expecting the entire world to be pixel perfect.

I'm comparing MSFS to all other sims. And what MSFS gives me by default (for "free", in the sense that I don't pay more than the purchase price of the entire sim) is vastly superior to anything else.

I did the 2024 alpha and that is mind-blowingly better. Of course there will still be areas that aren't great, but again, that doesnt' bother me.

I certainly don't get the "Slow Connection" or "Connection lost" messages that many seem to get.
