I got a refund myself, didn't realize it was going to be 100% streaming! Don't want my flight sim experience to be determined by server load! Think the load is bad now, just wait until Christmas.

  • Fair enough, i bet your back in a few months though. I just did a flight in a GA aircraft over Nevada and it was simply stunning, and the aircraft handled great, no stuttering or issues getting into t

Game launches are almost hours the most peak play time of any game. There will likely be less people playing at Christmas break time than there are people playing right right now.

MSFS should never be totally dependent on online servers

I must almost qualify. I got a refund.....Then I bought it again! I WON'T be beaten.

Exactly, their servers go down, no flying for you. Their servers get hit with a  heavy load, it will impact your game play. With this direction, I'll stick with 2020 and XP12.

They had issues during Christmas time with 2020 and that wasn't 100% dependent on the servers, 2024 is, so we'll see! Based on the launch, don't think much changed between 2020 and 2024.

Ya if you're averse to non-trivial dependencies on the cloud/server-side in any software (including MSFS), then need to use something else. Computing and software in general is all moving to cloud-based architectures. You're ok with the level of cloud/server dependence in MSFS 2020 though?

What have you been doing for the last year? Missed the entire promotional tour were they talked about this being the biggest change?

Busy enjoying X-Plane 12!

I use X-Plane 12 for night flights and MS2020 for day flights. I don't use photogrammetry in 2020, buildings look melted, skyscrapers look like pyramids from the distance until they draw in as you get closer, so it's turned off. It's still better than XP12 during day flight, but night flight XP12 is king.

Unsurprisingly, given the day 1 server overload issues that happened. It is what it is, they'll move on and build this out into a great sim just like they did 2020. If anything, I feel for Asobo given the immovable release date they were given by MS, as devs and creators they surely would have wanted more time to polish before release. I am sure Jorg would've wanted more time too (despite some around where who have a weird thing against him), but the corporate overlords at MS must have set the stake in the ground for a Nov 20th release.

As a consumer however I am glad they released it earlier since I get to keep using 2020 as my stable sim platform, while enjoying 2024 and its new features. I was gonna hold off for a bit more, but hearing all the rave reviews of the new stuff (when the sim works), especially re: flight dynamics and ground handling, I'll jump in very soon me thinks.

Agree.

I'm sure they needed to launch now in order to ensure good sales for the holidays.

The giant silver lining that so many seem to be missing is that v2024 is SO POPULAR that it brought MS' infrastructure to its knees.

That is SUCCESS!!!

The reactions of all the nay Sayers is just sour grapes.

You might not want to wait in line for dinner at the best restaurant in town TONIGHT...but you'll be back next month, with your money!

Glade you got the refund man this is so bad for the whole team at asobo really sucks this needed more testing but when they first said this was  cloud based I was not happy because if Microsoft decides one day they don't want to support flight simulator and pull the plug its done were screwed I honestly always had x-plane as a backup in case they do something like this  I wish them well and I know it will get better hopefully they can do something about installing more stuff local.

This is true for 2020 as well. If the server goes down, you won't be able to authenticate. This has happened a few times.

XP is currently usable offline, but that may change too - they are introducing accounts and marketplace as well. I hope it stays offline though, I do like having a backup sim that works without the intenet

No point complaining that a game (especially one with the whole world in it) won't work without internet. In fact, MOST AAA games won't work offline these days, even the single player ones.
