64g Ram really necessary?

Featured Replies

I currently have 32gb system ram and the Xbox one S only has 8gb and can run this game just fine...

Is 64 GB really that much of an improvement in running 2024?

Thanks!

Can't speak to 2024 but it has always been touted to have the potential for needing more ram than 2020 would.  I know for me the recent upgrade to 64gb was a sort of icing on the cake for me in several areas.  For starter it STOPS any paging to disk which did happen here w/ 32Gb of ram installed.  As well I notice panning the most demanding VC for processing that I use, the WT 787X, there is no longer any hesitation or judder which always happened w/ 32Gb installed.   I do have best ever performance and it's rare to see more than 2-3 stutters in a 2h flight in any planes I use though FBW320NX can generate more than the other 4 I use, in my sig.  IOW, I'd do it again, upgrade to 64Gb even for 2020 let alone 2024.  I won't be installing 2024 until around Christmas time.

No if you're running a vanilla install, but for me running AIG, Sky4sim. and several other applications in the background, 64G made big difference for me. With everything running my memory usage runs round 31 to 32 G's and no studders.

Depends on what else you want to run concurrently....

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

No. 16Gig here and it runs fine; the MS servers are by far the largest performance and visual hindrances.

That is a big problem for most people, not me but just saying. They MS/Asobo needs to let people have more options to make use of their hardware (HD space) and not rely too much on their buggy and overloaded servers.

Blurred textures of the terrain.
confusión key assignments. Very high temperature of the GPU. Simulator that freezes and you can't do anything. Lack of realism in the textures filling places with trees non-stop. Crazy live traffic that turns 180 degrees going into the terminal.

I've seen 27 GB of RAM used during a short IFR flight with the A320v2 yesterday. I feel safer with 64...

The XBox series S runs a low resolution, LOD limited version of the game. And it doesn't run Windows + addons in the background.

Another point - it is very inexpensive to go from 32 to 64 GB - about £108. I will be buying a new pc in the next few days and intend to get 64GB>

That all depends on the RAM, if I went from 32 to 64 buying the same RAM (as always advised) it's currently £57.

Flying a C172 (G1000) without any add-ons my system was using 28 GB, with 2024 using 10 GB.

That's close enough to feel I was justified in upgrading from 32 to 64.

Edit: I also had Charts open, a browser, and some Word and Excel documents containing useful documentation. I always use the sim like this and wouldn't want to close them due to memory constraints.
