Activating packages is soooo slow. There is hardly no download speed during this process. The last 20 times I loaded 2024 it took 2 minutes and 35 seconds, tops. I have nothing special about my installation. I have no clue why others' sim is loading so slow. EDIT: And 2020 did and still does load in over 4 minutes, always. The capacity issues we encountered at launch were tied to overwhelming interest and access to the online servers – completely separate from the simulator itself. The aviation experience that our trusted partner Asobo Studio created alongside other first party development teams is the best we have ever made. The team is very grateful for your patience and we will continue to embrace your feedback and improve the simulator for years to come. Blue skies ahead.“ Since the only thing they actually mentioned about server issues was that it was due to overwhelming interest, I guess their fix is having less players interested. Apparently steam users are down to about 1/4 of what they were at the peak and I'm sure all the gamers on game pass lost interest pretty quickly.

It took two years, give or take, for decent stuff to start coming out and QoL to be good enough for me to switch. I remember when Asobo had their Grand Canyon presentation back in September, Jorg mentioned that MSFS24 was 4,000 times more detailed than MSFS20. I thought then that the only way of rationalising a claim like this was in terms of the amount of data it encompassed: 4,000 × 2 petabytes = 8 exabytes, or 8 billion billion bytes, and a couple of inferences follow fairly simply: Firstly, Jorg didn't want to mention how many bytes it was because he felt slightly embarrassed about such a number. Yet in spite of his feelings, MS will likely be really proud of what they have created, Earth's digital twin, a creation which could have a staggering future for a company in the environment modelling business of gaming. But, perhaps more importantly, 8 exabytes of data represents another level of complexity compared with any other single item in the history of gaming. I expect it will take them some time to get control of 8 exabytes of data while they feel somewhat intimidated by a project of this magnitude. But it also means that MS is committed to the future of it, provided we can avoid destroying ourselves in some global conflict. Creating such a comprehensive digital twin represents a remarkable human achievement which they won't abandon to satisfy someone's whim. It's like the conquest of space, it will be forever beckoning. MSFS2022 with an empty community folder, no exe launching separate apps, and as vainilla as MSFS2024 right now, takes about 2:45 to main menu. November 26, 20241 yr I mean it's been good of him to do these regular updates on the server problems which had to be made, but to completely avoid the elephant in the room that is the state of the game at release is disappointing. If only he looked at the official forums bug areas he'd realise they released an Early Access product, without informing people beforehand, that's the elephantb which he'll no doubt avoid at the next Q&A and be all smiles and rainbows about the future when it's the present that needs addressing. The "4000x" number referred specifically to ground detail polygons, which are generated locally, not stored on the server. (Think about it - if there was 4000x more data stored on the server, you would have to stream all of that, which would be too much for even the fastest Internet connection.)

The problem with calling something "Flight Simulator 2024" is that it is going to be a marketing disaster if it isn't released in 2024.
