November 27, 20241 yr I have used flightsims for more than 30 years (Yes, I'm that old) and I have never had a set of rudder pedals, only a joystick with a stick that can be used as rudders Now i have bought the Thrustmaster TCA pack, and even though it still can be used as rudders, I'm also considering if I finally should buy a set of rudder pedals to go with it Do you guys all have seperat rudder pedals or do you still use a "twisting" joystick? And when is it mot critical in flight to use pedals? Jorn Lundtoft I don't always stop and look at airplanes.........Oh wait, Yes I do. November 27, 20241 yr Real aircraft have pedals. Having them in your home setup adds to the immersion. Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024

November 27, 20241 yr I used to be someone who never had pedals, and then I did a couple real world flights and completely changed my position and bought some the next day for my sim setup. Could never go back. Nick Running
November 27, 20241 yr If you fly airliners only, you can mostly get away without them. Just don't land in a crosswind. But in general, yes, I'd say rudders belong into the flight sim MEL. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
November 27, 20241 yr Unless you’re flying with minimal wind, pedals are a must. You don’t need to spend a fortune. Most retailers have already extended their returns for the festive season, so just buy some, see if you like them, and you have ample time to return if you change your mind.
November 27, 20241 yr I have several rudder pedals but always just stop using them, I just find them annoying. I much prefer my twist axis in the stick that I've used since I was a wee lad. November 27, 20241 yr Yes, highly recommend pedals. They really do add to the immersion, and allow far better control of not just the rudder but braking as well. Also, I note that you have the Thrustmaster TCA stick (I do too) - the rudder/twist axis in that WILL break before long. It's a design flaw in the stick which they've never addressed. November 27, 20241 yr Absolutely not as long as you have a twist on your joystick. You have to spend a lot of money In order to have rudder pedals that are worth having. If money is no object then sure go for it. More immersive. More realism and all of that. I have a good pair and I am happy to have them, but the price purchase does not in any way come close to the return in enjoyment or use. Ron MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. November 27, 20241 yr You can use the twist stick but yeah having pedals is the first thing I'd do before swapping into a better yoke or throttle or stick It's especially nice for GA aircraft. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

November 27, 20241 yr Flew without rudder pedals for years thinking I didn’t need them, instead using a twist rudder on a joystick. Only finally got rudder pedals for helicopters but turns out they are a big help with airplanes as well.. go figure. It feels much more natural and you have much more fine control when your not trying to twist your wrist and move the ailerons/elevators at the same time.

Shots fired LOL I still have my FFB2 twist stick but I've had the mediocre Saitek Combat Pro pedals for over a decade. The twist is doable but the pedals are so much more natural since i fly irl. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 27, 20241 yr Oddly enough, as I have absolutely no interest in the whole piloting thing and consider just sitting in the cockpit for even an half an hour an insufferable bore, I have always used a set of pedals (I have a CH Pro setup) and even though I don't use them much in a flight I would really miss them. I know this as I have a second, backup sim-PC (my old kit) without any pedals and that just doesn't feel right. Taxiing and takeoff/landing is when I'm most aware of them.
