Did you update the “layout.json” file after you had reduced the file sizes? Apparently MSFS2024 is very particular about having correct sizes in that file (unlike MSFS2020) which may explain why it works in one but not the other.

That make sense and it works! Thanks

  • I love the progress. Keep in mind it's only half a year old. They've come a long way since the beginning

  • I can vouch for the BATC traffic, it's nice. It can use FSLTL, AIG and FSTraffic models if you have any of them installed.

Yes, it all has pros and cons. At the same time - if you're at an airport scenery that does not reflect real life (try KORD and report back) you will see aircraft taxi in the grass where taxiways have

Do you know how to do this? I had the same problem after reducing the texture size for 2024...

Use this, put the exe on your desktop, drag and drop the layout.json you want to update on the desktop icon.

I didnt update the layout.json file @boez. I just did and it works!! Thank you for the suggestion. The performance difference between 2K and 4K models on my modest system is really noticeable.

@roland_lfor thank you for the link to the .json update utility. I wasnt sure how to change it.

Much appreciated both. 👍

There’s free tool kicking around somewhere (I think it’s this one https://github.com/HughesMDflyer4/MSFSLayoutGenerator/releases) but please note I’ve not performed this process myself (I’m back on 2020!) and so not 100% certain this is causing the issue with getting reduced textured FSLTL AI into MSFS2024. Worth a try though.

edit: make sure you keep a copy of the current layout.json file just in case

edit2: hadn’t seen the above replies before I responded!

🙂

Thank you very much for this tip!

I wonder if the AIG FPS drop might be because of all the aircraft lights being on even when parked. That’s a lot of dynamic lights to render.

That light issue doesn’t happen with the AIG injector, FSLTL or the default live traffic. So it’s odd

Why are AI aircraft so easy to overtake? It seems like if you get within the vicinity of one and you are at the same flight level, they will just slow down significantly and descend 1000-2000 ft to let you pass them.

I have a very strange problem with BATC: I only use it for AI traffic injection (with AIG and FSLTL models) and after 1-2 minutes, the engine sound of my aircraft disappears. All other sounds are still present. Anybody else with this phenomenon?!

I haven't seen this answered elsewhere but FSHUD allows you to control the interface as well as see the map, ATC messages, settings etc from a web interface on a client machine.

Does BATC all you to view the BATC Interface on a remote machine?  I saw that there is a remote map and a VR toolbar but nothing about a web interface or remote client.

Is that possible?

That's the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger and trying this...   Otherwise I will stay with FSHUD even though I prefer the voices in BATC.

Thanks...

I'm a little disappointed with the AI, as I thought the process was going to run outside of the sim, so there would be negligible, or no impact on FPS, but yesterday I saw the same 20% hit in performance that I experience with FSLTL. Any thoughts?

No I don't think so.

The process runs outside of the sim and can therefore be much more efficient. Still the process has to be done and models have to be rendered etc., so it cannot possibly be without FPS hit. Keep in mind that BATC does *a lot* more calculations than MSFS, which is why BATC aircraft keep speed and separation, do actual go arounds and come back, have a taxi route that will not make them collide with you, do not enter the runway when you're on final approach etc. So even if the impact might be the same by now, what you get value-wise is much bigger.

Thanks. I'm just a little surprised though, because unless I'm mistaken, the dev did mention that trhe performance hit would be negligible. Maybe I'll play around with settings a little mor etoday. Cheers.

Hm, yes, well, he was wrong there. Perhaps the impact isn't as great as with other ATC addons but negligible isn't the correct word here, that's for sure...!
