December 24, 20241 yr 5 hours ago, MrFuzzy said: Come on, be honest: Interesting post because it does seem that people are experiencing a wide range of performance and enjoyment from the sim. In my case: - I have had the traffic popup a number of times in the past couple of weeks, I assume it is bug introduced with one of the patches and in time it will be corrected. Irritating yes, but not a big deal to me. - I only experienced the freezing on return to main menu using iniBuilds, no other aircraft, included or payware, does this so I assume it is an iniBuilds issue; but I really do not have much interest in their planes, have tried to fly them twice, so this, while an issue for some, does not affect me or my enjoyment of the sim at all; but if you like the aircraft they have made this must be quite frustrating - I have never experienced a crash on a livery change of the same aircraft, but, I have never tried to do that, so this issue has not affected me nor my enjoyment of the sim, but if you are someone who likes to change liveries regularly during a single sim session, it certainly would. - I have seen some popping, but it is minimal, no more than what I recall seeing in 2020, so this for me is a non-issue. It maybe could be affected by settings, I keep mine conservative. Again, if this is happening to you it is immersion breaking, but it is not happening to everyone. - I have twice seen blurred runways, and a few times when I loaded a flight it has taken a minute or so for all the textures to resolve. But, that is twice out of 100 flights so while I hope it gets better it is not to me a big deal to me. Again, my temperament is pretty forgiving of this kind of issue, especially when it is seldom noticed, so it does not affect my impression of the sim. And, really, I am very happy they reduced the footprint of the sim on my computer so the trade off of some infrequent, periodic blurriness, which usually corrects quickly, is worth it. It really had been quite rare for me. - I do not use the built in ATC so cannot comment on this at all. I gave up on sim-based ATC decades ago. - Like I said, I have little to no interest in career modes and missions, I never did even back in FSX that had a few too from what I recall. If you like careers and missions then from the reports I have read, and my short experience, this is a letdown, especially as Asobo hyped careers a great deal. But my point is if someone is like me and has little to no interest in careers, this does not appear as an issue; but it is if you looked forward to careers - My framerates have improved considerably in 2024, and the depiction of the world is a giant step forward. Again this can depend on hardware and settings so it depends on the individual's system, setting preferences, and expectations. I guess my point is a our frustration with the game is really very much dependent on how we use the sim, our settings, and our expectations and this is likely why there are very different impressions of the state of 2024. I’ve had very little issues with the new sim (after the first week or so), but I suspect this is largely due to how I use it. I only fly a few aircraft (Fenix, RJ, Cows DA42, Bonanza G36 and a few more). I did however try quite of few of the default aircraft initially, and that wasn’t a great experience. I don’t use default ATC, AI aircraft or career mode. I have a high end system, and I use AutoFPS to manage TLOD. In the first week, I had lots of issues with blurry/missing textures, PG objects not being rendered fully, bandwidth issues - but I honestly haven’t had any of these lately. Performance seems much better than 2020. Having said that, I raged quitted the sim once after spending more than 30 minutes trying to remove the A330 engine covers 😵 And btw - I just watched the video. Loved it! Great humor but also some very valid points. Just because I haven’t experienced many of these issues myself, I don’t doubt for a second that others have. I also have a high end system, same as yours with a 5120x1440 G-sync and the same toys🙂 I never bothered with AutoFPS I use a TrackIR with a wireless track clip pro (can't live without it) In FS2020 I have my TLOD set at 200, every other setting maxed to get butter smooth performance. I can set my TLOD higher but I find the TrackIR puts quite a demand on my system with the constantly changing view. I can start to feel micro stutters as I increase the TLOD. Without the TrackIR I'm good with a TLOD of about 300 for the butter smooth performance I crave. With FS2024 I've settled on a TLOD of 300. The game defaulted me at 200 and when I did my first flight I could believe my eyes at the quality of the graphics (low altitude and high altitude) and the feeling of fluidity from pushback to apron. No sign of popping except for the usual odd cloud change. I've settled at 300, because at 400 I can start to feel micro stutters while using the TrackIR. Without it, things are butter smooth. I've never tried going higher than 400 because at 400 things look almost real at fl360 with my old man eyes 😉 One thing I have noticed with my ultra wide monitor in combination with the TrackIR is that the game displays sharp textures in front of you and then they blur out towards the sides. This I believe is by design and it's most likely much needed. This piece of software just continues to amaze me. I've designed and tooled a few production lines in my day and I can appreciate the complexity of bringing a product like this together. I also don't think people understand that certain design choices are made to make things possible. Not only from a technical factor, but also from an affordability factor. Everything works fine?? - Are you not experiencing drastically lower framerates than MSFS even though Asobo declared that they improved multithreading and we could expect better performance? ... These are only a few issues of many, many more present in the game, that are seen by thousands of people and well documented here and on the official forums. How can you say that people are seeing "entirely different levels of stability and performance"? Let's say that the experience can range from frustrating to entirely broken by the bugs. Some of your questions I can't address, I don't fly the inibuilds plane, nor the 737, I haven't flown in career mode and doubt I ever will. Isn't your ATC window showing random positions in the comm history instead of the last communication? NO, never. And I use the ATC window every flight. - Are you not seeing blurred terrain and slow downloading of textures and PG even though your line speed is much more than recommended by MS? NO, never. No blurred textures and no blurred PG. None, not ever. It's perfectly stable in 2D and in VR. I am especially happy that the textures are not slow downloading. I have stated before that I must wait after entering the flight and do the normal prep, at that time the textures all load. and by the time I fly they are perfect. And stay that way. - Are you not seeing liveries, aircraft parts, ground vehicles, parked cars etc. pop up when you approach them or rotate your view? NO. As a matter of fact the ground vehicles behavior is far superior to 2020. They don't cut in front of me for no reason during taxi. I have seen them stop and wait for my plane to pass before crossing. When I call for the fuel truck, that truck will stop and wait if a grounds crew guy is walking in front of it. It will wait until the crewman is out of his path and then continue on towards my plane for refueling. I have never seen anything like this realistic behavior in 2020. If the crewman just stands in the same place, the fuel truck will back up and go around him. This is all new to me in 2024. The main thing I will say again is no blurred or slow loading scenery or PG. I don't see any of that. On day one of release, people on the official forum were saying the Western USA server had far better performance and lack of connection issues. That's where I live, Western USA. Maybe that has something to do with it. EDIT: I am also a GA pilot in the sim, often in VR. Loads of different GA planes. I don't like airliners because I don't do long flights, nor high flight levels. To me it's boring to be in the clouds where I don't see anything. VR is all about visuals. If I fly from one custom airport to another far away, then I have previously went to the flightsim.to map and downloaded 3rd party airports in between departure and destination. And do a series of short flights for the trips. Not flying airliners is easy on the hardware. This may be one reason my performance is wonderful. Even in the high resolution of my Pimax Crystal Light and mediocre 4070 card, low framerates never happen. Another big reason for lack of issues is I always only fly in native frame generation and DLSS. I avoid TAA like the plague because my framerates tank when I use that. December 24, 20241 yr I don't use auto fps and have LODs set at 200 and 200 all the time throughout the flight most of the time. FPS is worse in 2024, but still high enough to be smooth on my system. Actually yes. It seems much worse than 2020 and is quite distracting. I just read the France VFR (English version) December Newsletter, and in there they talk about the fact that LOD management seems to be handled differently in 24 than in 20, and how that is going to affect their porting/updating/development of 2024 sceneries. So I assume from those comments that there is some definite difference that accounts for the dreadful "popping" of items in various places, but particularly in airports. Whether this is another one of those features designed to improve things for the Xbox users, I have no idea, but it does have that sort of whiff about it. I actually hope it's a c*ck-up, as that would mean it might get fixed. It is one of the two main things I dislike about 2024, the other being the PG "trees", or more accurately the vegetative obelisks. I think the actual PG built environment is hugely improved over 2020, but the PG tree uglifacts are significantly worse than before. Oddly enough, even these PG tree lumps don't seem to be necessarily consistent. I have replayed a couple of flights multiple times (for testing purposes) and have sometimes seen a reduction in the number of more glaring obelisks. This would seem to imply that maybe there is an element of faulty streaming initially, but once the stuff is in the rolling cache it smooths out. I have the default 16 gb rolling cache (or whatever it is) on NVMe SSD, but then I also have Gb Fibre internet, and don't have any issues with streaming in the initial run through any scenery (i.e. before it gets loaded into the cache). In fact I've found the whole streaming thing to be a non-issue, to my surprise and delight - no pauses or stutters and pretty smooth all the time. From a vegetation point of view, I actually prefer PG off in some of the big cities I've tried as then you just get the rather fine new modelled trees, but I don't like the fairly plain and uninteresting building models. I do use Bijan's trees when I'm in PG "ON" mode, and that helps as he's also done lots of excludes to remove some of the more obvious tree blobs. What I'd really like is the ability to turn PG on and off without having to restart the sim. That would allow me to more easily choose the option that works best for any given location.
