Question about Tobii: you have to mount it underneath your monitor but I've got the monitor controls there, right in the middle, underneath the bezel. Now I did read something about a metal plate: am I correct that you can put that on the FRONT of your monitor and then somehow attach the Tobii to it there? I'd like to see a picture or video of how that looks but can't find any. I do wonder if I can easily access the monitor controls when the Tobii is attached in front of them. Obviously Tobii is by far the most expensive solution but... it seems to be quite good. I will also check out Beam Eye Tracker some more but I don't have a webcam and the good ones they suggest are quite expensive. Perhaps I will see if I can make my smartphone work as a webcam but that's not exactly ideal. I might need that phone for other things while flying. What I found out from reviews, all what matters is 60hz. That's what I went for and it worked well: VIZOLINK W4DS HD Webcam for PC, 1080P 60fps FHD Webcam with Microphone, HD Light Correction, Privacy Cover and Tripod, 78°Wide Angle, Plug &Play for Video Calling and Streaming, Zoom/Skype/Teams/Mac: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories Worth a try... Works fine with my headset when I wear one. I used electrical tape to attach the regular track clip to my headset. Works like a charm with no hat or visor to get in the way.

February 27, 20251 yr I bought a Delanclip for TrackIR years ago and highly recommend it. So nice not having the wires in the way. https://delanclip.com Dave Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU
February 27, 20251 yr I've been a long-time user of TrackIR - first as it was and then with Delanclip. Ended up ditching all of it for Smoothtrack + OpenTrack. Much more convenient, I just plug my phone and run the app. Then start OpenTrack with the sim and go from there. Surprises me that more people aren't embracing this considering it's the same functionality you get with TIR but for a fraction of the cost. The quality of the tracking was okay but not great when I first switched, but I'd say it's phenomenal now. Only downside compared to IR is that really dark environments where the camera can't see your face clearly is not ideal, but not really a big deal. Edited February 27, 20251 yr by Georgleboui
February 27, 20251 yr My £120 investment in a TrackIR 4 unit 20 years ago has served me very well. Like some others say I personally rarely use headphones. Using any sort of LED tracking attachment to headphones with all its limitations with wires has always been a turnoff. Did contemplate Tobii the odd time but could never get an answer out of anyone about mounting the unit on a non branded tripod or stand. Official mounts are magnetic from what I understand so I assumed it required some sort of magnetic connection to work. I have used the basic reflective clips with TiR and its never really bothered me. The only exception is I cant sim during the daytime if its bright outside due to the windows location. My son recently bought me official Natural Point caps, which look nice. Fully conscious it may not be the right thing for you, but that's exactly what made me ditch TrackIR after a decade. We moved to a house where the window was directly behind me and it just wasn't working at all. Switching to camera based tracking solved that issue for me.

Since I have a fairly custom setup (display is way larger than what Tobii recommends), I only use head tracking. It’s great not having to deal with all those wires anymore. Similar my TIR5 was after using it for years at the end of the life time cycle, have TOBII since 6 months and happy would have done it sooner... Free movement and great performance and once you have similar functionality it's great. Have also setup for head tracking and a very tiny amount eye 🙂 André

February 28, 20251 yr This is a nice thread. I wasn't even aware of all of these options. I'm still corded hehe. I bought TIR5 with TCP so many years ago. I've also repaired it 3 times including soldering of the wires on the TCP at least twice. The TCP is the flimsiest piece of hardware bah! But I use a headset and have been since I started simming, so it fits nicely on the side and it's currently taped together hehe. That TrackHat v2 device seems really cool, I just wonder if it really works so well? The thing with TIR5 is that you can change curves/profiles which has been really nice. The default profile is terrible imo. So does anyone with TrackHat know if one can use "profiles" or is there an ability to change the movement in the sim associated with my head movement? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
February 28, 20251 yr Takea look at the Beam Eye Tracker. Simple, accurate, nothing on your head and very inexpensive. You may be surprised. I have been testing it for a few days and am amazed that I like it better than I did the Tobil. https://beam.eyeware.tech/

Don't know if you know it already and until a MSFS2024 fix, you can edit the .xml file to adjust sensitivity to your own: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/fs2024-ctd-when-adjusting-tobii-eye-tracker-curves/666006/74 Vincent B. February 28, 20251 yr I had a bang on the head in 1989, so my eyes point in odd directions, now. This rules out (possibly) Tobi. The immensely powerful sun in Scunthorpe, streaming though the gaps in my blinds, renders TrackIR a bit tricky, at times. I use the hat switch. FWIW, the baseball cap I bought to use with TrackIR cost £0.01, the shipping cost £4.00. 😃
