Wireless TrackIR?

I recently replaced my Track IR 5 (been using that for years) with the Tobii. Since I have a fairly custom setup (display is way larger than what Tobii recommends), I only use head tracking. It’s great not having to deal with all those wires anymore.

What size display do you have? I ask because I have a 34" curved monitor and was interested in the Tobii until I saw they recommend no larger than 30". Just wondering how well it works on a larger display.

    I recently got a Tobii - use it for head tracking only and mounted it on a Tripod to keep it away from my screen. Can't fly without it any more.

77". Since the TV is relatively far away from my sitting position, I mounted the Tobii on a table in front of me. Eye tracking doesn’t really work, whereas head tracking works quite well. I just wish it would be easier to configure the sensitivities in the 2024 menu - I don’t think this is currently possible.

lol 😜 to put it this way - the setup has an appallingly low WAF. So that’s the downside, if it makes you feel better 😇

I have a 34" curved (AW3423DWF). No trouble at all, works great.

Correct, the '24 sensitivity settings in sim are broken. You can copy across your '20 settings into a cfg file and it works great. There's a tutorial on the official MSFS forums in this thread FS2024 CTD when adjusting Tobii Eye Tracker curves - Bug Reporting Hub / Resolved - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums. Some of the values need to be multiplied by a factor of 100 between '20 and '24 cfgs.

I am sick and tired of the utterly annoying wires of my headphone and Track Clip Pro so (after years and years of being sick and tired) I am (finally) planning to replace my headphone with a wireless Blutooth one. And then of course I also would like to have a wireless solution for my Track Clip Pro.

What's considered to be the best option for this? Preferably one that's easy to purchase: I once read about some wireless option for this which you could only order if you subscribed to some Facebook page and since I don't have (and don't want) Facebook that's not really an option for me.

What option would you advice (if money wasn't a problem)?

Before Tobii was a thing, I bought the Delanclip Fusion which is wireless to work with TrackIR. It worked great but it is large and you have to use some double-sided tape or velcro to attach it to your headphones.   https://delanclip.com/product/delanclip-fusion/

Ive had a wireless head tracking setup from TrackHat  AI head tracking | TrackHat PC head tracking for games and sims | trackir alternative for ages, still using their 3D printed version 1 quite happily.

I went for this wireless solution because I kept standing up and ripping the wires out of my PC inadvertently and destroyed my TRACKIR.  Now I can get up wander to the kitchen for a cuppa and not worry at all!

I second the recommendation for TrackHat. Until I retired my TrackIR a few years ago, I'd been using TrackHat's wireless, rechargeable clip with no issues (and no wires!). It doesn't look like they sell it any more but they now offer a "Sensor V2" which would replace your TrackIR camera and do the head tracking for you with no clip required.

https://www.trackhat.org/sensorv2

I also found this "DelanClip" which looks pretty much like a carbon copy of what TrackHat used to sell so it might work for you as well:

My first wireless tracker was from Grass Monkey, and it worked well. The issue is that the device attached to the headband is a bit heavy. Later I discovered Tobii and never looked back. As said before in the forum, if you use a TV as a monitor (as I do) or have a wide one, then you can put it on a mini tripod... works like a charm... On their website, they sell a clip to attach the tracker to a tripod.

Here is my setup... it can be adjusted pretty much any way you like..

I am using Beam Eye Tracker and a web cam. You can select head only or head and eyes. It's super inexpensive and you don't need to wear anything on your head.  I went from an IR headset to this.  It's working perfectly!

The regular, inexpensive and non-powered TrackIR TrackClip has worked flawlessly for me with no need for the more expensive and cumbersome wired unit with no discernible loss in accuracy.  I have a south-facing set of windows to my immediate left that let in lots of light in the daytime, but have never had issues with light interference.

I HATE wearing hats, but like @Bobsk8 I have a lightweight visor (similar to what TrackIR sells) that works very well and doesn't bother me a bit.  Works fine with my headset when I wear one.

Sometimes the best solutions are also the cheapest ones.

To get both head and eye tracking working, I just setup my Tobii 5 to work with 2024 using native support

This YT video by Jonathan Beckett got me started: Configuring the Tobii Eye Tracker for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

There are a couple of things not covered in the video. First, if you use Steam, the config files for Tobii are located here:

       C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\2518512\2537590\remote

The names start with 'inputprofile_' then a number.

Second, the axes in the config file are in the same order as the axes listed in 2020's Tobii sensitivity settings:

AxisName=”0”        Eye vs Head Tracking Ratio
AxisName=”1”        Eye Tracking Responsiveness
AxisName=”2”        Head Tracking Sensitivity: Pitch/Yaw
AxisName=”3”        Centre Stabilisation
AxisName=”4”        Head Tracking Sensitivity: Roll
AxisName=”5”        Head Tracking Sensitivity: Position
AxisName=”6”        Head Tracking Auto-Centre

These are the settings that worked best for me:

<Axis AxisName="0" AxisSensitivy="85" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="1" AxisSensitivy="40" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="2" AxisSensitivy="150" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="3" AxisSensitivy="20" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="4" AxisSensitivy="100" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="5" AxisSensitivy="75" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="6" AxisSensitivy="0" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>

When experimenting, you don't need to quit the sim. While in the sim, change the settings in the config file and save it. Then change the profile in Tobii 'General controls' to the default profile and save, then change the profile back to your one, save, and the sim will use the new settings.

Remember you have to bind the 'TOGGLE HEAD TRACKING' and 'EYE TRACKING RESET' functions in MSFS. I used the same buttons as OpenTrack.

Finally, make sure you prevent MSFS from finding OpenTrack by renaming the 'NPClient64.dll' file in the 'C:\Program Files (x86)\opentrack\modules' folder. To make this easier, I created a couple of batch files to enable/disable OpenTrack.

I went this way a few days ago.  I prefer it to the Tobil solution that I had.  Easy to use and inexpensive.

Tobii. I was a user of TIR for 11 years and hated the wires and the clip and all the other nonsense that came with it. Bought Tobii, never looked back.

Interesting suggestions!

Question about Tobii: you have to mount it underneath your monitor but I've got the monitor controls there, right in the middle, underneath the bezel. Now I did read something about a metal plate: am I correct that you can put that on the FRONT of your monitor and then somehow attach the Tobii to it there? I'd like to see a picture or video of how that looks but can't find any. I do wonder if I can easily access the monitor controls when the Tobii is attached in front of them.

Obviously Tobii is by far the most expensive solution but... it seems to be quite good.

I will also check out Beam Eye Tracker some more but I don't have a webcam and the good ones they suggest are quite expensive. Perhaps I will see if I can make my smartphone work as a webcam but that's not exactly ideal. I might need that phone for other things while flying.
