Though I've not yet seen anything in videos that convince me 2024 is much of an improvement and I don't really take the more vocal for/against threads seriously (sorry just being honest here), I'm sure I'll cave at some point after some fixes purely out of curiosity.Being made aware of the cdkeys site will hasten this, so thanks to the forum member who brought that up.

I do hope the major bugs get fixed, though Asobo increasingly doesnt seem to directly consider much  users feedback despite the promo streams inferring it does, maybe due to having other stuff on their plate, they do have a record of ignoring some obvious shortcomings possibly as they would take too much work or they dont actually know how to fix them.

All this is to be expected, its a business for them and merely a game/sim to the customer

It was the same with 2020, but 2020 made such a large advancement in graphics that perhaps we all were prepared to give more allowance to the negative aspects

For disclosure I fly almost exclusively VFR, low speed and wouldnt know offensive initials not allowed to do with an FMS

  • So you don't like MSFS 2024 Bob? Go figure... Bob, who hasn't even tried the sim has to reassure himself he's making the right choice. Lol, what a waste of time...

  • And probably bore many more.

  • This thread is completely useless. Just another attempt to foment arguing and discord over which sim is better; like it hasn’t already been debated ad nauseam. Go fly in whatever sim you like and let

Threads like these are fine with me: no one forces you to read them let alone react in them. Often topics like these can be fun to read and they remind me of how weird people can be. I also usually get a grin on my face anyway whenever I read one of Bob's opinions (which he posts almost everywhere he can). It's all fine with me: what's the problem? No one gets hurt in any (real) way so... It's amazing how upset people can get by a few harmless words (or video's) on a forum about a flight sim...

We have separate screen shot threads could we have one for 3rd party reviews /YouTube videos too?

Or.. I'm going to the nearest bar and asking a drunk which sim is better and posting his(or her) review here.

Looking forward to it! 🍻

AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024

I think there is truth in it to some extent and it's hard to tell what it is exactly. I fly both in 2020 and 2024 in VR only and there is a clear difference in the overall quality of the picture. I have a pretty decent system so we can rule out that it's running with quite low settings (13900k, 64 GB RAM, RTX4090 OC, Quest 3). I also say all of that without considering the VR bugs in 2024.

Still there are things that look way better in 2024 like the atmospheric effects, clouds, lights etc. but especially on the scenery when not flying in specific areas like the Grand Canyon, in VR it looks worse than 2020. This applies to photogrammetry but also to normal scenery when seen from above. The reason is unclear. It might be because of the colors / seasons, but that's not all. I guess it's because the overall image generated is less smooth somehow and contains a lot more sharp edges in the details. Although when you look at it, it might be very subtle.

But that's also just a guess by myself. I can just tell that the scenery looks worse than in 2020 and I really hope that will get fixed somehow over time. I think that 2024 overall has many great additions and is a great platform for the future, so I look forward to how it will evolve.

Some other things are also quite surprising. While the VR performance in 2020 is outstanding, especially when using TAA, there is also difference in how other applications affect the sims. So for example, when running BeyondATC, in 2020 the performance penalty is much worse in VR than in 2024. When running BeyondATC with OpenGL, this improves the situation a bit for 2020, but in case of 2024 I need to run it with Vulcan for the best results. Both simulators are running with DX12.

When running 2024 in 2D, the performance is outstanding compared to 2020. I can run 2024 with everything on Ultra when TLOD 400 and OLOD 100 and it's just smooth.

I don't understand these threads. Streaming such a program is just wrong, but it's the solution they managed to find in order to keep the money flowing which, just like nvidia, it's all that matters to them whether you like it or not. They couldn't care less about users and this is the truth.

Some people will still use MSFS2024 and will like it and some others will still buy 5090s although they are a major flop. I find it worthless to try and control whoever does what, it's people we're talking about and people will do people things.

So, all in all, let people use MSFS2024 if they like it and let them buy 5000 series cards if they want to. I know where i want to be and not worrying anymore about what others want is a huge weight off my back.

Nuno, I agree with most of what you say but, at the same time, I am in an Ryzen 5600 x, 32 GB (DDR4-3200MHz) with an RTX 3060 Ti (8GB VRAM), and FS 2024 runs better than FS 2020 did.

I am happy that it works for you José. If MSFS2024 didn't have so much i dislike i would have probably moved over already as i usually do, but to me it has a long long LOOOONG way to go still. I guess the major feature i need it to have is the possibility to download all the content so that this streaming thing goes back to MSFS levels which were just perfect to me. The rest is just way too much to describe, let's hope they fix it (for me) soon.

CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11

I watched the video from start to finish. I thought that it was quite balanced, although I suspect that his lower framerates in MSFS 2024 may have something to do with him being in VR mode (which I am lead to believe is not exactly optimised at the moment). Can other MSFS 2024 VR users confirm if that is the case?

I actually think that the ground scenery looks a bit better in MSFS 2024 in the video. The trees look better at altitude (none of that "cauliflower" effect in MSFS 2020 that abrams_tank has mentioned elsewhere), and the colour of the terrain generally looks more natural (although there are a few areas in the MSFS 2024 video that seem a bit "redder" than those in MSFS 2020). On a side note, I still do not understand why the same Bing textures are not being used in both simulators. That does not make a lot of sense to me.

I also noticed those strange black lines that keep appearing and disappearing in the water. This was evident in both simulators (and I have seen this many times in other YouTube videos of MSFS 2020), so I can only assume that it is a consequence of some setting that I do not use myself (because I have only seen this effect once in the eighteen months that I have used MSFS 2020). My guess is that it has something to do with PG, but I would need confirmation that PG was enabled in that video. If it is PG, then I have no idea how others are comfortable with seeing graphics artefacts like that. Fortunately for me, I have no interest in using PG

I also noticed the blurred runway textures when he landed in MSFS 2024. I am assuming that this is due to streaming issues, but I do not know for certain. However, it illustrates one of the many reasons why I am worried about the possibility of upgrading to MSFS 2024. I simply cannot accept something like that at any time. It may well be a moot point considering the low specification of my PC, but I have heard conflicting reports about the performance of MSFS 2024 on lower end PCs. Some people say that it performs better than MSFS 2020, and others have stated the exact opposite! Considering the DX12 requirement (and the significance that this has with respect to VRAM), I would be taking a big risk unless I am presented with very convincing evidence that my current PC would be up to the task.

Whatever the case, it was another interesting comparison video.

I thought this might be related to the use of DLSS...

How long has DLSS been available? I noticed those black lines in YouTube videos a long time ago.

I wonder if the video creator is using the SU1 beta or not. SU1 really transformed MSFS2024 for me. I already loved MSFS2024 already but SU1 fixed almost all my Vision Jet problems and (amongst others) it also seems to have improved the ground textures: it's as if a certain LOD level was missing before SU1. Things look a lot sharper down there!

BTW... you could say it's not really fair to compare a 4 year old matured sim with a (as we all know) broken first release of another sim.

BTW 2: I didn't watch the entire movie: I am allergic for YT-video's in which people improvise their text on the go.

As far as purchase decisions are concerned, it is absolutely fair to compare both simulators as they are now

I tried MSFS 2024.  It was a stuttery mess.  I hated it.

Then lossless 3 came out, and the latest beta, and it performs well, and I love it, and it looks better.  If I get another month of solid flying out of 2024 then it'll be time to uninstall 2020.

I found the FBW A320 performs way better and is better than all the inibuilds planes in the sim by default.  Time for PMDG to stop making endless excuses and start getting their stuff in 2024.  But who cares what  people fly anyway?

Yes, me too. I am trying to switch more to 2024 as well. But i still get to many sudden CTD. 2020 in my end is really rock solid and yes....less performant then 2024. But the stability is important for me and 2024 is not that stable at my end at the moment ..

And of course that maybe addon related....but I just need these addons to create my immersive feeling in VR.

Addons like airports (ONLY 2024 compatibele ones), and now finally the IniBuilds a350 and also the Fenix.

But with Fenix and a350 I have sudden CTD....with my 24gb graphic card ..

VRAM never exceed 70 to 80%

I've had CTD's for 2024 a few times. One of those annoyances. Then I realize that I was using the latest beta with a plane that doesn't have "full" compatibility with GNS addons that weren't "updated" yet. So, probably my fault.

The Fenix is amazing. So is the Avro RJ.
