verify that you are checking MSFS24 and not just MSFS20

Excellent point. I stared at this for a bit, just to make sure because it's easy to get confused. Not the best UI.

  • Yep I just did this.  Exited the beta, waited for it to say Join again, then rebooted PC. Wiped LOL! It's way beyond a laughing matter.  I've been one of the few to defend this sim but what

Kind of funny seeing a highly successful gaming company totally screw their helpful/unpaid beta testers. Just think of the number of man-hours lost * the number of users recovering from this mess.

this update also affected users who were NOT in the Beta

I've yet to see anyone post evidence of this.

What sort of evidence are you looking for? This is precisely what I was trying to report a few posts above. Perhaps we need a precise definition of not being in the Beta, but I can confirm that leaving the Beta this morning using the Insider Hub, restarting the computer, checking Insider Hub again to ensure that MSFS 2024 was actually NOT in the Beta, still resulted in the phantom download, mass resetting of options, etc. Not the end of the world as we know it, but kind of annoying.

Cheers.

It is indeed. You may have already realised but it sounds as if you have the XBOX app set to download updates automatically. This is what caused the damage. By the time you had opted out of the beta, the XBOX app had probably already triggered the phantom update.

I have now set it to not automatically download updates, not that I'll necessarily bother joining the beta again.

I'm just upset at the potential for this to further delay the start of the beta

jrw4, your post was procedurally correct in that you resulted in receiving the "update".  Per the main MSFS forums, if you were still a member of the former SU1 beta at the time on Friday when this phantom update was pushed out,  unjoining after that time would not keep you from getting the update. Where you post is incorrect, is that anyone who was not part of the SU1 Beta or unscubsribed prior to the release time of the update has been affected.

So I got everything (after a considerable effort) back to normal after this update nonsense. Then I left the beta and started the sim and it re downloaded the 8.7GB update because I'd forgotten to restart my PC!! Gods Teeth I'm back to square one! I'm going to have to pinch a couple of my wife's Valium....

Why on earth is it still live? Why haven't they pulled it?

Well, it did not in my case, only started up the Xbox App after I opted out of the Beta on Saturday evening CET and restarted the PC. No update happened, no settings lost.

That is why I would bet some money on the fact that those still affected after opting out had the Xbox App in their autostart resulting in triggering the update at the very moment the PC was fully booted and Xbox App is up and running.

That really sucks. Their definition of "escalate" the issue and mine are very different.

Sorry to hear that @jarmstro. I'd need something stronger than vallium! 😉

As for pulling it, that's the very question I asked a couple of hours after this farce started but MASOBO move in mysterious ways it seems.

Got struck by that update as well. Despite not actively pulling it. All messed up. Had to uninstall and reinstall 2024. luckily that part goes fast nowadays. Adding back my (few) content one by one. Though I am not happy about it I see it as a housecleaning effort - to find a positive result of this mess
