Cue the classic "Well, it’s a beta - what did you expect? How dare you be annoyed that it’s broken?" crowd.

  • And THIS is why I did not trust them after the last time they uninstalled my sim.  At least they validated my concern... Do they not have a f-ing staging environment?  It's really a bit silly at

Can someone confirm that before each update we have to rename the community-folder, to avoid it being deleted? Btw. I tried to make a backup of it but I was not allowed to copy it somewhere else. Why is that?

But my main question is: if I am not following the sim-news every day, how can I know before launching it, if an update will be coming (so that I know I have to rename the community-folder before launching)? That’s the pount I still don’t understand. And unfortunately I have absolutely no clue which version I own, I just remember having participated to a beta 2-3 months ago…😗

You don't need to worry about MSFS deleting your community folder if you get AddOn Linker from flightsim.to: https://flightsim.to/file/1572/msfs-addons-linker.  With AddOn Linker, your add-ons are stored outside of the MSFS folder structure, in a folder of your choice.  AddOn Linker creates symbolic folder links inside the Community folder so the actual add-ons are always stored safely in a folder outside of the MSFS folder structure.  So if MSFS ever inadvertently deletes the contents of your Community folder again, it's not a big deal, because you can restore it with Add-On linker with a click of a button. AddOn Linker also allows you to turn on and turn off add-ons very quickly, for each session of MSFS that you fly (ie. every time you load MSFS in Windows). So if you have a lot of add-ons for North America and you are flying in Europe today, you can turn off all your North America add-ons with a click of a button and only load MSFS with Europe related add-ons.

I'm surprised nobody in this thread suggested that you get AddOn Linker until my suggestion.

It's the first time I have seen the marshals out in 2024 VR, so that's one improvement. Before this beta update, VR always removed the marshals.

Not where they are standing, lol. A dirt strip in the middle of nowhere does NOT have marshallers.

On topic, I like this SU2 beta a lot. MSFS 2020 is now uninstalled for good.

Cheers, Bert

Thanks. I downloaded and installed that tool but it looks like my community-folder has to be empty first. And since I cannot copy any file from it, i am a bit stucked. But luckily I have only 3-4 addons in it. So I think the easiest way is to change inside the sim the location of the community-folder to an external disk (instead of C:), so that I should be safe for future updates.

You should be able to copy and move whatever folders are inside your Community folder to outside of it if you are running the normal version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 on PC (I'm not sure about Windows on Mac though, I have never used Windows on Mac). Make sure MSFS isn't running because if MSFS is running, it might lock down your Community folder.  But if MSFS isn't running, you should be able to copy or move whatever is inside your Community folder to outside of it (reboot Windows just in case, and make sure MSFS is not running).

If you are able to move the content from inside your Community folder to outside of it, you can move all the content to the folder that AddOn Linker reads from.

As for putting it on an external disk, I don't know if that's such a good idea because when MSFS runs, it will try to read the content from your Community folder, which ultimately gets read from your external disk if you are using AddOn Linker. I'm not sure if it would result in stutters or not.  You can give it a try and if it stutters, you are better off putting that content on the same disk that MSFS runs from.

Could be worse, could be marshallers and an F5 parked in the tress.

Thanks for the explanations. That’s weird because I just restarted by PC to be sure. I am running Windows 11. And as soon as I am trying y to paste any files/folder from the « community » folder, I get a warning « your organisation doesn’t allow you to place this file here ». And I am trying to copy them to another disk where I have full access. It actually doesn’t mater where, it simply won’t allow me. I tried to change the permission of the original community-folder on C too, but it also doesn’t allow me to do it…

The addon linker is certainly a good addon, and free, but I simply opted for installing the Community and the FS2020 and FS2024 folders as well as the streamed content folder to a different place in my PC, different disk and partition, and use the "UserConf.opt" to set the new default location.

Never had problems with updates.

Make sure MSFS is installed on the same drive that Windows is installed to on your computer (ie. if WIndows is installed on drive c:, make sure MSFS is also installed on drive c:). Also, I see in the MSFS forum, this has been brought up before, you can check these threads to see if it helps:

Encouraging. What's your texture res and what's your peak GPU temp?

I'm running RTX 3050, 32 GB, i712650 here. And FS2024 runs as great as FS2020, in fact, in certain situations, it runs better. Three things that really improve performance are Lossless Scaling, AutoFPS, and Undervolting GPU. Most of my settings are high (including buildings, waves, clouds, and road traffic)

I am running 1080p with textures on High. I am running the laptop fans on high speed AND it sits on top of a cooling pad, so nothing really ever goes low 80s degrees at worst and low 70s is average. In my case, 2024 runs better than 2020. I am running a 10750h processor. This is a 2020 laptop (Helios Predator 300) which I got a couple of months before FS2020 came out. It has served me really well. I don't use Lossless Scaling due to 2024's native frame generation that works better. I have never used AutoFPS (cause I don't want anything changing my settings - I am not chasing FPS, I just want things to feel smooth), and I have never undervolted or overclocked anything.

Is anyone else noticing that the live weather isn't accurate at all over southern France? MSFS 24 is displaying clear skies when it should be overcast and raining.

that's why you didn't see the marshallers. are you sure you are playing the same game? it's easy to confuse the Fishing Simulator beta with MSFS 2024 SU2 beta.

I fly VR exclusively since day 1, and at each and every airport marshallers were walking around and waved me in.
