I am struggling to see the need to transition to 2024....

It's just as stable as 2020, and it has more realistic flight model, ground physics, rotating beacons finally work (broken since 2020), and the lighting/atmosphere is vastly more realistic than 2020.

  • Perfectly stable on my machine - never had a WASM crash, never had a CTD. To the OP: fly whatever sim you like best and works for you 👍

This will generate a myriad of responses.  But from my experience with MSFS2024, I've enjoyed every minute of the switch from the old platform.   I now have a whole suite of hi-def aircraft and s

I’ll probably make the switch once more of my aircrafts make the move (PMDG, Fenix, Dukes).  I did fire up the maddog only to be confronted and mystified by the sim’s control setup.  At one point I lost the ability to click anything in the menu.  After changing keyboard setups I couldn't even find the “enter aircraft” command, which is ctrl-c by default.  The barrier to entry was made unnecessarily high, especially for an old guy like me.

It should have been called early access.  The pounding that Jorg and team are getting is well deserved.

I fly Fenix almost predominantly. Thought it'll take longer to make the transition, but I have much smoother performance and especially atmospheric colours are significantly improved, so now haven't opened 2020 in 3 months and couldn't go back. I've never used PG.

SPAD.nxt, SimHaptic, FsRealistic, BATC with AIG - these didn't even notice the sim had changed after updating them.

Most sceneries have worked just by dropping the folder from 2020 folder to 2024 one, which at first was a surprise as the scenery providers don't yet say there is compatibility or sell the sceneries for 2024.

I'm always someone who likes to be using the latest and greatest.

I just fired up FS2020 after not using it for months.  I miss the PMDG 737 and wanted to see how it ran with the latest frame gen and with Say Intentions.

Oh my word.  All the microstuttering gone, all the weird rubberbanding gone.  I'm using the map mod, rex atmos and active sky.  It looks sharp, the lighting is astonishing and I can take off and land without stuffing up the flare because of a stutter.  I can use the most demanding of airports without totally rubberbanding on departure.

It's like having a whole new (old) sim.  For me, FS2020 is well and truly back, and it's FS2024 I'm thinking of binning.

I'm sure when Asobo created 2024, they didn't realise it was going to create a down the middle split, with people not really keen on transferring across.  My only worry now is, because 2024 is such a pain, are they going to start forcing us across in the next few years?  I look at 2020 with whole new eyes now after three months on 2024.  It's incredible.

I get so tempted to get Rex.

I use Bijan's trees for seasons in 2020, I can't get their seasons products to work.

Atmos is really really really good though.  Just for subtle lighting changes and thinner, gentler clouds.   Download Lubo's presets if you do.  It's all sliders and adjusting,  but just set it and forget it.  Unfortunately you have to have it running at all times, but it's worth it.

The shutdown problem with 2020 has been going on for weeks, and Asobo can't seem to be able to fix it. I have never heard of any program that the user could not shut down without having to go into task manager to do it. If Asobo can't fix this issue, what kind of progress will they be able to make to fix the bugs in 2024?

I have a fairly powerful gaming laptop. Not a potato but not a top  of the range beast.  A 3080 of some description.

Using the exact same aircraft, add-ons and graphics settings, 2024 is a chore that needs constant tinkering with, stutters and rubber bands when on the ground anywhere demanding.  2020 just flies and looks incredible.  That's what worries me about our "always online" future.  I'd quite happily freeze FS2020 as is, all the progress, aircraft, scenery, graphics that it produces, and not be forced over one day in the name of "progress".

I just wish they would stop "updating" MS 2020 which works fine until they unleash one of their mandatory updates on us, which typically causes one or more problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Isn't it funny how this works? I might get the same feeling when reinstalling MSFS, lol. But no, not giving in. I'm convinced MSFS 2024 is a lot better suited to me for my type of flying; that doesn't involve anything containing the letters PDMG

Well, if you are patient enough, 2028 is the year for you😁

That should be out of alpha, by 2030.
