August 7, 2025Aug 7 And this is what it looks like without the map mod, LOD 200. Like we've gone all the way back to FS98.

I've also made it look a bit better with the sharpening hack (0.65, film grain 0.17), whatever that one is called. I don't see these crisp refined mountain textures though, and I'm tweaking more than I ever did during the days of P3D to make MSFS 2020 look anything like it did at launch.
August 7, 2025Aug 7 How about showing the unzoomed picture? You know, in real life the zoom on my Mk1 eyeballs is INOP.
August 7, 2025Aug 7 No idea....my vanilla POST SU16 MSFS looks as good as it's ever been with PG ON. I never found a need to use a map mod with MSFS. Even PG OFF far exceeds any visuals of FS98 or FSX. To each it's own....good luck! And all these photos are zoomed in and cropped, if I understand correctly. 1 hour ago, blueshark747 said: PG OFF I admit autogen is OK and better than default FSX at least (not sure about FSX+Orbx), but there's definitely a problem with the base ground textures. At 0:59, it looks as if your internet connection was down or the Asobo data for Cape Town is a disaster. Perhaps my bias is because I live half the year by these mountains and I'm so used to seeing them IRL. I guess zoom out is the name of the game.

August 7, 2025Aug 7 Comparing the terrain graphics in MSFS 2020 with FS98/FSX? What are you guys smoking? As for the terrain textures post SU16 update, I have only had three quick flights (at three different Spanish airports) since the update was installed, but I have not noticed any problems so far. As for comparing PG on and PG off, the terrain graphics and autogen buildings/trees with PG off are light years beyond anything seen in the past. I think some people have this idea that PG off results in the overall scenery quality taking a nosedive, but it really does not. I never use PG. The autogen world with a handful of VFR landmark packages installed is excellent. That video of Cape Town with "PG off" is not rendering Bing aerial images. Those are default terrain textures, and have nothing whatsoever to do with PG.
