What's missing from MSFS 2024?

Featured Replies

With respect to fan speed demand, I hear my CPU fan (Noctua NH-U14S) operating at high speed when I am in the MSFS 2020 menu screen. That makes no sense either.

    Sorry Noel but I completely disagree with you here - I have the exact same issue but it wasn't a problem in SU1 and early versions of SU2. There's absolutely nothing wrong with my computer or setup -

    I don't particularly miss 2020 but hey there were one or two things I wish were ported over. But that will happen eventually. What a clickbait-y title though, which is a bit surprising. So accord

    A bit of an aside, but for me this is one of those small improvements that made a big difference and made helicopters really enjoyable in 2024. Being able to pick any spot on the ground and start in c

Option to turn off bloom and lens flare.

Reduce the ui scaling and font size less than 18.

It could be continuation of data stream and doing cache management/processing.  P3D/FSX had a similar process of doing a lot of background loading while sitting at the menu/scenario screen.  Even on app exit, it could still be doing a lot of cleanup and indexing.

Could also be the metric (CPU temp, GPU temp, CPU load, GPU load, chipset temp, etc.) used to drive the fan curves.  My corsair iCUE setup drives a lot of fans and every fan can use a different metric to drive their individual curves.

What I've noticed with MSFS2024, it's the GPU fans that ramp up so it could be doing a lot of decompression of scenery data (global) while I doddle around contemplating life, the universe, and everything.

What's missing in my opinion:

* realistic water physics
* proper engine simulation, especially for pistons and turboprops (turboprop simulation is still very flawed. E.g. beta range and reverse)
* turbulence and the impact wind and weather have on the aircraft
* better helicopter flight dynamics (still many flaws)
* improved ground physics

In the graphics department:

* better night lighting
* support for community made water masks (SDK)

General:

* Controls UI. Ability to set up controls like in XP, where you can define various profiles and set up things like beta and reverse. You CAN set up profiles in MSFS too, but the UI is not exactly user friendly and intuitive.

What I do know is 2024 SU2 has been fabulous, trouble free, visually super compelling and with stellar performance.

And this sim that you've seen...is it in the room with us now?

Yes. This is the sim I have too. It’s fantastic.

We're not in the same room so no, it's not in the room with us now.  It is in my flight deck room and it's fabulous, trouble free, visually super compelling and with stellar performance, every day.  That is why despite having a fully functional 2020 I find myself using 2024 about 80% of the time now save when the craving for PMDG 738 surfaces.

CJ4 and PC24 not good enough?

More is better.  Stop with the tubes already.

Hopefully it's something daft like telemetry being left on or something, but it's definitely annoying for those of us who suffer with the problem - landings are the best bit 🙂

It happened to me at LFLP the other day which is a 3rd party airport from 2020, so presumably it was an incompatibility with that airport.  Went from 50FPS-na to 33 or so which otherwise never happens.

Every time I have tried XP over the years, the one thing I immediately notice is no matter what the weather, all I see is "Haze". It is like flying in a bucket of steam. After a few minutes of that, it gets put in my "Recycle bin".

But Bob, it's more realistic!
