MSFS 2024 Live Ship Traffic is a Disappointment

Featured Replies

Flying around Vancouver the last several days, I expected to see some ships. I only saw a few small craft. it's prime cruise ship season here, and there are always freighters anchored in English Bay waiting for a berth. It's sad.

What happened to that? I though it was one of the top promoted features?

GAIST adds some ships, but it still seems disappointing. I still didn't see any cruise ships and no ferries, I saw one container ship beached on a bank, and 3 freighters anchored in the bay.

On the bright side, FS2024 has achieved the level of detail shown in the FSX DX10 promotional screenshot from 2006 🙂

  • if you used Little Navmap, you would see that MSFS2024 often feeds hundreds of ships on lakes and rivers into the simulation, but because of the LOD problems you often can't see any of them. you would

Let me break this down, and before I do so, let me also be absolutely crystal clear about one thing.  The current situation IMHO is not OK.  I am not seeking to defend or excuse it, I have no reason o

Same can be said with the live air traffic liveries which were in all the promotion videos. A lot of the features promoted don't actually exist as advertised sadly.

Nah, this is still much better. Where did you ever see water like that? In 10 years maybe...

OP, don't expect to see any kind of realistic traffic for now. But the good news is that trains will be released in 2023.

Also, an impressive list of updates and improvements are expected in 2022, we just have to wait /s

Hahaha, I love the humour you're putting into this now. Brilliant.

We have had so many fixes to the regressions it is impressive.  If they can just get around to fixing the MSFS2020 bugs / issues in this all new 2024 engine, I would be very happy.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

The only luck I've had with ships ai in MSFS 2024 are the Seafront packages. The Hawaii one is especially nice.

That would be a great question for today's developer live stream if one could get it on the docket for discussion!

Ken

The model matching needs more options. AFAIK the only options are ship type and country of origin. Can't use the IMO number or anything.

Ahhh they have a 'question time' scheduled today? I gave up on those years ago. They should employ Fiona Bruce to chair it too 🙂

They posted about it two weeks ago in the weekly news update, they had a form to submit questions.

Those Q&A streams are great, we always get new info and updates on development.

I am glad you see it that way. For me, I just hear words with no meaning. Rarely backed up by actions.

But if you like them, well, enjoy 🙂

Not true at all. But whatever.

Still waiting for mosquitos and gnats to be added when doing the walkaround, I also want to see bird nests on engines that didn't have their covers for a while.

Actually its very true, and I will quote @MrFuzzy because he created a brilliant list of all of the things that are still broken, some of which go way back to 2020 and have had several promises over the years in those QandA streams:-

    • Don't use AI traffic
    • Don't use Real traffic
    • Don't use the Flight planner: it still doesn't have performance data and is unable to provide fuel estimations after how many months from launch? Six? Abandonware
    • Don't use photogrammetry
    • Don't use damage simulation: terrain elevation is a mess in many airports and you will crash on the taxiways. Sadly, planes are not very good at climbing stairs. Also, pushback often pushes the plane against buildings or other parked aircraft so...
    • Don't use pushback
    • Don't use Career mode
    • Don't use Fauna
    • Don't use Dynamic settings
    • Don't consider Asobo hardware recommendations
    • Don't use LEBL
    • ...
