I know experiences vary, but I just have not had the issues in 2024 that others seem to. In 2020, I went through 9 months of CTDs and the sim was unplayable. Everyone blamed my hardware (had to be memory voltage or a bad hard drive)! Then suddenly with a patch it went away. Even after, I had to turn off some of the snap views left and right, as those regularly caused my system to crash in 2020. Maybe 2024 will randomly bite me at some point, who knows? I've been on the wrong end of things with 2020. I did not need to wait for SU3. The only things I even noticed were the fix to the spinning control menus (hated that) and some fixes to ATC and traffc. Otherwise, things ran fine before, and run fine now. I've done a ton of flying in the last many months and would not have wanted my sim delayed. Regardless, some of you need to just wait a year anytime a new sim is released. Just like pilots talk about "personal minimums", you should have your own personal tolerances. I happen to be a Game Pass subscriber anyway, so I could test 2024 at no additional cost, and to my surprise, it just worked. And has kept working. I've since bought the higher end edition and never looked back. I think it's selective memory of MSFS 2020. I was there from the release of MSFS 2020, until MSFS 2024 came out and that's when I switched. MSFS 2020 was CTD galore in the first year. Gradually, the MSFS team lowered the CTDs with every Sim Update, to the point where MSFS 2020 is today where it is quite stable. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

MSFS 2020 is a great flight sim, and in my books, it's the second greatest civilian flight sim ever created, only behind MSFS 2024. Use it as long as you want to. Heck, continue to use MSFS 2020 even when MSFS 2028 comes out, if you enjoy it that much, that's great. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

August 29, 2025Aug 29 I guess that there is no estimated timeline for the release of SU4 (as opposed to beta versions, which I have no interest in testing)? I am spooling up my credit card for a new PC purchase later this year, and I would prefer to be able to install a "fixed" (for want of a better term) version of MSFS 2024 at the same time. Support for Windows 10 also ends in October this year, so it would be a good time to upgrade to Windows 11, and that will only happen with a new PC. I do not really want to be in the position of having to install MSFS 2020 on any new PC, and then decide to switch to MSFS 2024 a short time later. I just hope that SU4 is the "holy grail", so that the decision can be made for me Edited August 29, 2025Aug 29 by Christopher Low Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
August 29, 2025Aug 29 It's beyond my comprehension how anyone can think it's a good idea to get rid of Jorg. The short-sightedness it takes to arrive at that opinion is amazing. Let's get rid of the guy who pioneered higher quality default planes, default LIDO charts, regular free world updates, working with third party devs to flesh out the base sim etc etc etc. 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. I just hope that SU4 is the "holy grail", so that the decision can be made for me Fascinating you say you hope to install a “fixed” version of msfs 2024. I don’t know how or exactly when, but in early August, both my 2024 and 2020 applications got messed up in more ways than one. I ended up reinstalling w11 as I had nothing else better to do. I installed msfs 2024 first after the w11 reinstall and since then, my msfs 2024 is fantastic. For me personally, it is a complete 180. Before, I had terrible terrain loading, unexplained CTDs, and overall the game was unplayable. After the w11 reinstall, runs darn well. Anyways, I laughed a bit when I read the aforementioned part of your post because I installed a “fixed” version as well. Albeit not intentionally. Night and day difference. Why do you think that is? Novelty of 2020 and the willingness to look the other way? Novelty of 2020 in comparison to the current offerings at the time? Had implicit and explicit expectations for 2024 based off 2020 experience? 2024 isn’t a multi generational or even a generational leap in Flightsim software? 2024 wasn’t delivered as advertised? 2020 wasn’t delivered as advertised either. August 29, 2025Aug 29 Let me tell you why I think that is. The thousands of positive reviews, and the ratings boxes they checked, means that they really liked 2020 and were satisfied with it. The lack of comparative positive reviews for 2024 tells me that thousands more people did not love 2024 and were not satisfied with it. People will sometimes predict political elections based on anecdotal evidence and what some people they encounter are saying. Others predict the elections using the polls that tabulate thousands of responses. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. August 29, 2025Aug 29 I started playing FS 2024 around two weeks after the bit of problematic release. Didn't look back... FS 2020 was promptly wiped from my desktop, probably forever... There were and there are problems, OFC, just like with any other flight simulation platform that I use or used, but overall I am more satisfied than ever with any other flight simulator, well, yes, with the exception of Flight Unlimited 🙂 FS 2024 is extremely optimized for even my mid/low desktop, has been receiving updates that in some areas have made very positive progress, and I would include Weather and ATC and AI Traffic among them. As puzzling (to myself...) as it can be, I opt for flying the default 32N, 321LR and 330 variants (Inibuilds) more often than both the Fenix and FSLabs, which after having made the clean install for SU3 final haven't even been reinstalled ! I also didn't buy any GA aircraft for FS 2024, and use the default 172 and 150. I did purchase a glider for FS 2024. All scenery is default. Sometimes I enable RealTurb CAT Areas. August 29, 2025Aug 29 I play 2024 almost exclusively, starting about 2 days after it's release. Waited for SU3 since several beta's and finally made the move to 24 only and it's refreshing 🤣 2020 left the virtual building here. Edited August 29, 2025Aug 29 by virtualstuff André
