SU3 is what MSFS 2024 should have been at release

Thankfully I never had the chance to fly long haul, so such degradation was never noticed, or... well, there are occasions under which stutters do happen when using the built on AI Traffic and ATC.

The longer flights I've do e, such as LIRF - LPPT or EDDF -LPPT, with BATC, never suffered such degradation.

I start noticing it around the 3-4 hour mark. Initially I thought it was just normal stutters due to VRAM etc., but VRAM was fine and those stutters happened even up in the air at 35000 feet far from any heavy scenery etc. Finally the pattern emerged when I did a 8 hour flight and had lost 50% of my normal FPS on SU2 (where I did many long hauls). Simple maths means you'll lose about 7% of FPS per hour. If you limit your FPS from the start and have a lot of headroom you won't notice this for the first 2 or 3 hours, but after that it will only get worse.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I cant believe the complaints? I've been simming for a very long time and I cant recall any sim to equal 2024? Id be interested to know another of sim, historic or not,  that offers better value for money, performance, visual fidelity, range of addons and realism?

The complaints don’t cover the whole SIM, but they do touch on important elements that can be frustrating.

I moved to XP12 mainly because of the LOD issues many people mention. For me, performance is better than MSFS, the value for money is excellent, and since version 12.2 the visual fidelity feels higher in my opinion. Realism is also superb. The main weakness with XP12 is the default scenery, which isn’t great—but it’s easily fixed with add-ons. Unfortunately, that can put some people off before they get to experience how good it really is.

You’re right that the range of add-ons isn’t as extensive as MSFS.

That said, I’m not an MSFS hater. I don’t feel the need to support just one sim and trash the others. I’ll continue following this forum to see if and when the issues that get raised regularly are addressed. At that point, I’ll happily use both MSFS and XP12, rather than just XP12 as I do now.

In the end, both simulators offer a great experience, and it’s a win for us as simmers to have the choice.

Is it just me (and my wishful thinking or failing eyesight) that 2020 looks and behaves a whole better after SU16?

I am getting buttery smooth flights and a better looking world, bearing in mind I do mostly tubeliner flights. Everything from short/medium to super-long hauls with complex airliners.
Yes, I have spent quite a bit of time tweaking but I am now at a point that the sim is giving me endless satisfaction.

I jumped onto the MSFS bandwagon (from P3D) two years after its introduction so I have no qualms waiting for either 2024 to finally settle down or even maybe look forward to 2028.

1) LOD in XP is irrelevant because it doesn't have much detail by default.

2) Performance may seem better in XP but that's because, again, it doesn't have much detail by default.

3) I assume you are joking with regard to value for money.

4) My apologies if I've offended the fat controller.😀

I’m not seeing anything that makes 2024 a far more compelling sim than 2020.

You mean like when P3D went from v1 for $200 if you weren't willing to lie about use, to v2@$200, and v3@ yet another $200, into v4 and v5 for another $400?  Come now, 2024 is absolutely compelling in multiple ways, and drastically more so than any of P3D's new releases and all for a total of $60/$120.

I have tried XP over the years ( demo only), and each time I have been underwhelmed with regards to the way it looks and feels. I just recently tried the latest demo, and started thinking about all that I would have to give up to switch from MSFS 2020 to XP. All my aircraft, the BS 850 and Turbo Duke and SWS PC 12 and Kodiak, the iFly Max, Fenix A 320, PMDG 737 and 777 as well as Alviasoft EFB, the way Track IR functions in MSFS, the list goes on and on. Since I don't have any issues at all with 2020, no stutters, no CTDs, no problems, from flight to flight, it just works. I also have no interest at this point in getting 2024.

nobody here including me would have been willing to wait two more years to make it this level as from the beginning I was running FS2024 just fine anyways... for what it was.... I feel a majority of issues are people's machines being ruined by garbage like MCCAFEE, NORTON or other intrusive anti virus, and unoptomized PC computer, and to some extent even inability to optimize FS itself.. but that is a step learning curve! now the program is better suited for all yes indeed.... but to wait till now, no way

Fair enough. I have both. 2020 is more than capable.

Now that's a new approach, blame all the issues that Asobo is trying to fix for months with 2024, on antivirus programs.. LOL  You can't make this stuff up.

Actually I know what he means. With SU3 I get zero stutters with my modest PC. Nor do I know what all the LOD complaints are about? It looks and works like nothing I've ever seen in a sim before. Yet others do get these issues with far better systems than mine. So somethings amiss. But it isn't the sim.

Well, the stutters and lod problems are "bug logged" by asobo, so it's definitely a sim problem.

These posts get so tiresome! Anyone who has been into this hobby for more than a minute knows that it takes 6-12 months after a new release of a flight simulator for the major bugs to get resolved!

I have to agree, 2024 runs as smooth as a babies bottom for me on my modest setup. I'm not having any lod issues. And the only time I deactivate my anti-virus is when I'm installing new software. So that kills that excuse to blame antivirus. I can fly for hours and hours without any studders or anonimies, than others with way more powerful systems than mine. And I'm running pretty much every addon out there, freeware or pay ware.

There is no need to switch.
