MSFS 2024 walkaroud mode is great when done right!

Featured Replies

So I noticed more and more 3rd party developers are taking advantage of the walkaround mode in MSFS 2024.  Now for those who dislike the walkaround mode and want to skip it, yes, you can skip the walkaround mode.  The walkaround mode was very controversial on the release of MSFS 2024, as there was no way to skip it until Asobo added a way to skip it.  A lot of people claimed the walkaround mode was useless.  But now, I see 3rd party developers take advantage of the walkaround mode.  Here is how Fenix implemented their walkaround mode:

Blacksquare also just implemented the walkaround mode for their TBM 850.  And I also saw someone do a walkaround for the A2A Aerostar too, although I don't think that person was fully utilizing the walkaround mode for the Aerostar.

In any case, I think the way some 3rd party developers are taking advantage of the walkaround mode, enhances the immersion.  I don't think the walkaround mode is that "gamey," if it's implemented in the right way.

totally agree. and it is a requirement before any flight in the real world. I do it all the time in VR, I even walk up to and around other AI airplanes when I see them in VR, just like I did in real life, and enjoyed talking to their pilots and exchanging ideas for the next  $ 100 burger flight, kind of extends the flight foreplay.😃

very nice.

I like WAM but it is not fully implemented on the HJET yet.

Unfortunately, it may be a 2024 feature that holds folks back from upgrading IMO.

Walk-around was the primary reason I didn't go back to MSFS 2020. It worked well for me right from when 2024 was released and you could always skip it using shift-C.

The funny thing is there is nothing in that you can't also do in 2020 with drone mode or now with Chaseplane.

Ironically the INI 350 did a great job of the interactions with 2024 walkaround mode, what was "interactive" or exclusive to 2024 about that Fenix walkaround?

To me it’s the interactions for a few aircraft in walk around mode. For the fenix when it first had the cargo bay doors etc I didn’t think I’d use it but it is really well done and cool to be able to interact on the outside of the aircraft rather than merely look at it. Hopeful other devs will follow suit especially with jets.

I like walk around mode in VR.  Gives you a real sense of how big some of these planes really are. Like the PMDG 777 or A350.  Something a 2D monitor view just doesn't compare.  So for me, I agree, its great.

Shift+C doesn't skip the walkaround, if the aircraft has engine and pitot covers etc on. Shift+C just puts you into the cockpit view.

To skip the walkaround, go into your controls menu (Keyboard - General) and assign a key to "QUICK PREFLIGHT"  (nothing was assigned to this by default for me, so I assigned Ctrl+Shift+P).

Hitting the assigned "Quick Preflight" key removes chocks, covers, etc, instantly.  You can then press Shift C to get into the cockpit and begin your flight.

What I do is create a flight plan that spawns at a runway. Then I use GSX to warp me to a gate. That's a lot of effort to make up for Asobo's walk-around.

Can you apply Shift+C to the QUICK PREFLIGHT as well, so that the one key combination does both tasks?

Yes that works without issue (and is how I have it set up).

Have you tried the walkaround feature in the default Cessna Citation Longitude? It has 107 items you can check off.

Then why do it?

Assign a key to the standard MSFS2024 function "Quick Preflight".     Load in at your gate, hit that key, and off you go.   No GSX war[ing needed.

No. You have to go into photomode for it to disappear.

Hopefully that is on the community request items and will change in the future. Avatar mode has so much potential for virtual hiking.
