Nah, nothing other than watching a bunch of frogs coming to a boil. 😁👍

I have the 700 and 900 , so I assume no discount on the 800 . Is it worth buying the 800 anyway. I miss my 737 but could wait till end of Jan .

10 pages of mostly price complaints … PMDG is certainly popular so I guess they can name their price 😉 … if I were to hazard a guess, popularizing PMDG threads be it in a negative or positive way isn’t going to get the price lower most likely the opposite.

One would think everyone here is poor and starving in the streets … but their hardware specs seem to contradict that 😉 … as does the Navigraph survey … and this is just entertainment isn’t it?

Don’t get me wrong, there is massive corporate greed and manipulation in the consumer market (RAM, GPUs, etc.), but I just don’t see that happening at PMDG (or any 3rd party content provider).  Most software engineering companies that sell products to the public move to a subscription process as it is probably the only way to retain sustainability … that or inclusive advertising.

Over the decades PMDG have managed to continue by providing products people want at the quality level they want, maybe not perfect for all, but still very good with a level of polish and quality support.  Any tickets I’ve opened with PMDG, I got a response within 24 hours (usually sooner) … support is expensive to maintain.

The fact PMDG are continuing with MSFS 2024 products is excellent and I hope they charge whatever helps keep them in business for future development work.

Yep!

All the folks here up in arms over a few dollars extra for an addon.

also the same folks who complained bitterly over having to pay for MSFS 2024. Yet here they are.

also the same folks who only seem to attach value to tangible items like computer hardware.

Do I appreciate the heck out of Just Flight for all the free updates? Yep.

At the same time, they never finished my Tornado for P3D and haven’t issued a single update yet.

my Hawk T1 & Vulcan for X-Plane don’t work in v12 and I don’t even have the option to pay for an upgrade!

and did they ever offer me a loyalty discount for my cross-simulator purchases…? Nope.

And they don’t have to, because it’s not the free/discounted updates that cause me to spend money with them, it’s the quality of the products they make.

same with PMDG.

and I’ll add that Fenix should’ve charged at least a nominal fee for v2024, because sooner or later they’re gonna need the cash, and training your customers to expect Free Work Forever is a bad precedent to set for corporate longevity.

Their most popular plane is the Queen.

How can that be true given the very high cost…?

(and to clarify, I went in for both of them)

nope - discount only applies to like for like models.

IMHO, not at all worth it to add another airframe just for a few weeks of use - they’re functionally identical, just like IRL.

And this is coming from a dude who’s favorite airliner is the 737.

Every time someone brings out this tired old trope..

Agree the continue discussions on price is a “tired old trope” but it goes on for 11 pages now.

1.  Only the person(s) funding and/or managing development at PMDG knows the bottom on what they need to charge to pay the bills and meet a projected income/profit to continue … so yeah, the price and value rhetoric has and is pointless without knowing what the real costs is to produce the content and be sustainable with supporting the content.

2.  Value is entirely subjective to the consumer.  If the price is $80, one may feel that’s not good value, another buyer may feel that’s excellent value.

I just don’t understand why these price discussion just keep coming back over and over when it’s not something anyone can control nor has insight to the actual costs of development.  I can list all the costs I know that are involved in software development and 3d modeling (since I’m in that field and have attempted to provide a product for MSFS 2020 and 40+ years of experience in this field) and all the other infrastructure support that goes into making software to be sold to the public … I think I did that before and frankly nobody could care the less about the actual cost to produce content, they just want the price at whatever they believe is “value” for them.

But I can assure you, no company is going (as an example) project 30,000 in sales and charge $10 for it when they know the cost to produce was $1M … that’s $600,000 in the red.  Now that’s just an example, I don’t know PMDG exact sales figures nor their exact costs to produce content.  But I do know how much software engineers costs (full time and contractors), and I do know how much 3D modelers cost (contracted), and I do know how much it costs to maintain software development tools, and I do know how much it costs to maintain a website and support system and e-commerce system and transaction feeds etc. etc.

EDIT: does anyone here really think posting how much they are willing to pay for PMDG’s product will actually have any impact on the final price offering?

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan

I see that folks here have been recently keeping a better tab on how much their Coffee costs (whether from McD... or that West Coast based popular chain ...🙂...) ...

Some of us would be willing to pay premium price for the PMDG 737 in the nth number iteration (no limit on n) of the same variants, the variants we have been flying for the last 20+ years (especially because there is currently no alternate choice in MSFS 2024 for the 737 NG Series).

And to some of us, it's a question of perceived incremental value of an airliner that has been produced by this maker, refined, and tweaked over last 20+ years, vs. e.g., an offer of another (new) airliner, such as the first ever (3rd-party) 747 in MSFS (-100 through -400, as the case maybe). Some of this thinking is also, based on what's happening, in terms of upgrade path, from the peer developers of equal standing and merit, specifically in our MSFS (2020/2024) world.

Anyway, PMDG is entitled to its strategy, and the PMDG threads, here, have been always fascinating with such dichotomy of opinions...no surprise here...🙂...

We'll soon see what happens, this week.

Cheers...!

I know you're trying to get a laugh, but where in the US have you seen a $15 standard cup of coffee??

Bro even a cup of coffee at Erewhon is less than $6 and no one is tipping more than a dollar for a coffee.

Yes, because people are discussing it. And some people cannot let it go.. you yourself keep the discussion alive.

I agree that this discussion is tedious so I’m not going to respond to your long comment to the further fuel this pointless debate

I respect your (and everyone’s) right to your own opinion and your choice to continue on and on, or not. I am choosing to stop. Wish you happy simming.

I disagree.
Only because every second simmer decided to rant about PMDG being about to release less than their competition but still charging 100% more for it took PMDG to take an extra round to... I don't know... "improve flight model" (or something alike that no one can verify) to have a justification for their price tag.
If no one said a word but just kept their opinion for themselves, we would have already paid 40 USD for an addon that mainly brings just MSFS2024 compatibility, if one wanted to fly a 737NG.

If they get rid of that "wobble", then I will pay full price for the 600 and 900 all over again.
