It's winter. Of course the colours will be mor subdued.

Well, if you're in the half of the planet located south of the equator, it's summer.

What do you mean? South of the equator? We all know the earth is flat. 😉

Just installed MSFS2024 but compared to MS2020 seems very washed out and overexposed - rather disappointing and unimpressive.  Is there something I am missing here that the MSFS2024 enthusiasts on this forum are seeing but I am not?  Thanks.

"Just installed....."

How much of the world have you actually looked at?   Did you install, load into one spot and then just decide MS2024 doesn't look good?  As with MS2020 as well, some parts of the world look drastically better than others.  Take time to spend a day or two looking at various locations and comparing.   Or were you just too eager to come and say that 2024 doesn't look as good as 2020, within minutes of installing?

2024 has many features that lead to the surface quality being significantly higher than in 2020.  Resolution, lighting, seasonal variation, etc. If you still don't like 2024 after spending a reasonable amount of time viewing the scenery, the option to return to 2020 is always available.

Some people have already made up their mind they're not going to like 2024, before then even launch it.

Yeah that's 100% adjustable through the EV slider in the display settings in the game. Just bump it up a little and it will match to 2020.

EDIT: I know you're demonstrating the difference with winter, but my point is that if this is what OP is seeing and not liking he can adjust it.

EV EXPOSURE = -.35 works well for me.

That's the answer.
While MSFS2020 had two seasons: "no snow" and "snow", MSFS2024 is actually having seasons that give you a quite realistic feeling of the actual month you're in.
These days in December are grey, brown, without much colour and somewhat dull.
So does it look like in MSFS2024 right now.

Not having any leaves on the trees in winter is one of the many PROs of FS24.
That buggered be on every flight I saw this in FS20.

Dig in deep Bruce, you won't be disappointed.  You might need to play around with HDR, monitor calibration, Desktop Colors in NVCP, etc etc.  It's nothing short of fabulous!

I came from FSX, I know the horror right, and I noticed the same thing. It took awhile but I have it looking great. There are just so many options to adjust and see what works. There's in game setttings, monitor settings, AMD graphic card settings etc. I finally got it looking how I wanted it through some trial and error. MY advice keep adjusting your settings but go slow and keep track of what works. I went too fast and had it looking worse. I just wanted to fly.

Also beware of tinted windows in aircraft, I've noticed in MSFS2024 the different in whatever texture-thingy they've used for the windows in different aircraft can make the world look different with regards to saturation/contrast etc. As I run in VR I have set my colours and what not to a decent level with 2020, but I may have to adjust for 2024 now, but being plane dependant that might be a pain.

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

I see that Steam has another 60% discount sale on MSFS 2020, but absolutely nothing on MSFS 2024  Not impressed.

It is a very hot summer where I live so maybe what I am seeing is the harsh light of an Aussie summer.  However, this is just an initial impression although consistent with my impression of 2024 graphics from YT videos.  Recently If flew in MSFS2020 from YSSY to WSSS over the Australian outback in the FBW A380 (QF1) and was blown away by the beauty of the landscape just outstanding and hard to see how it could be improved upon  with MSFS2024 - but we will see.
