Who else fully moved over to MSFS2024 this week?

Long time reader, first time poster here.

I used FSX for many years and had a lot of payware for it, but I switched to 2020 during the Steam July sale and have bought quite a few addons for 2020 as my system runs it very well. My system is an i9-9900K (overclocked to 5 Ghz) with 32 GB RAM and a 3080 Ti.

I'm hesitating to switch to 2024 because my internet connection top speed is only 60 mbps and that's the best I can get for a while. I've seen both good and bad comments about slower internet speed for the 2024 version so I don't know if that will be an issue for my system and 2024.

I hope to get a new system sometime in 2026, but the RAM prices have pushed that back probably until at least next summer or fall.

Don't forget that 2024 allows you to download/install the things you want local to your drive.

You should also be making use of the Rolling Cache so that whatever you do end up streaming stays on your disk for at least awhile.

As above, give it a try for $1. If 60mbps of bandwidth is holding you back, you have little to fear! 🙂

Well I'm another who has made the leap into MSFS2024 although for the time being alongside MSFS2020.  Not convinced that visually there is much to gain over 2020 if, like me, you stick to airliners 90% of the time.  Payware airports look much the same in either sim and the terrain from flight level 370 is also little different - but I am hoping for an improvement in night visuals.  What has surprised me is the amount of 2020 stuff you can load into the sim from the library (and Orbx) if you are so minded.   I would have preferred an evolving 2020 to the step change that has come with 2024 -  but it is what it is and having to pay for a new sim version after five years is consistent with what has been the case historically. A big thank you for all the beta testers who have been putting MSFS2024 through its paces over the past year.  It would seem we finally have a release candidate.

I was 2020 all the way but saw substantial improvements when I opted into the 2024 SU4 beta, both in graphics, performance, and most importantly (for me) PC temperatures.

I am preparing to fly EK434 OMDB - YBBN on Christmas Day in real time in the FBWA380, if my system can handle that, then yes, I will gladly uninstall 2020 and not look back.

Is there a setting that will enable me to start in the cockpit, and avoid that walk around stuff?

Same here. Installed it the day it came out.

Never looked back.

On a side note, I was surprised to discover that I have a total of 2729 hours in MSFS 2020, and that was from November 2023 up to yesterday. To be honest, that figure does not make a lot of sense, as it is almost 4 hours per day

Sometimes, we tend to underestimate our passion for the SIM, Chris…🙂…like my (daily) screen times on the phone as reported by the (watchful) AI…

Seriously, that number indeed does not seem to make sense.

You are ahead by one day from me…🙂…Ricardo…

I recall well that tumultuous opening day, when after a couple of unsuccessful attempts, I chose instead to take a stroll in the local nature trail. The weather was uncharacteristically nice and warm around here…🙂…So, it was the day after for me.

Congratulations and good luck to the folks, who already have transitioned to MSFS2024 (or about to)…this week. Maybe the SU4 or/and the 738 did it for them…🙂

Based on the fact that Microsoft did not offer a discount on the Steam version of Flight Simulator 2024 during the Black Friday sales, and they are not offering a discount in the current Christmas sale, is there any chance that we will see it reduced in price at some point over the Christmas holidays, or am I whistling Dixie?

I can't see it being on sale for a while yet. It's their premium, new product at the moment. I would also suspect they are seeing something of a spike in sales after the positive reports of SU4 release.

If demand is high I would not have thought a sale price is likely right now or in the immediate future.

@Christopher Low; obviously none of my business but....you've recently spent a lot of money on a new system to run 2024?

Compared to that it would seem quibbling over a few quid for the actual cost of the sim this system was built to run seems....?🤷‍♂️

It is precisely because I have spent a lot of money recently that I am trying to save a bit of money wherever I can!

It's like buying a new car and then realising you can't afford the petrol. Such unnecessary drama! And like we give a word not allowed!
