December 19, 2025Dec 19 So am I correct to assume this is a beta update and not automatic. So you have to sign on as a beta tester? Vic green
December 19, 2025Dec 19 Commercial Member Wow, just wow. CPU frame times went from ~180ms to ~105ms now in new beta. Now my GPU is a bottleneck, hitting 170ms all the time (3090). Before 12.4.0 it was CPU holding GPU. On top of all, now it's incredibly smooth, no stutters, only barely visible micro-stuttering, which is fine. Just flew above Barcelona with X-WORLD in max details (medium LOD), very very smooth I must admit. I'm positively surprised, and this is only Beta 1. Will test VR later, I hope for the best. Until now it was unflyable for me with 3090 and Quest 3, couldn't hit even 35-40fps with barely medium scenery details and no AA. Fantastic job Laminar! No need to sign up for anything though. When you run the X-Plane Installer, simply tick the box beside "Check for new betas as well as updates" in order to get it. If you have the Steam version of X-Plane, you can opt into the betas by right-clicking on X-Plane in your Steam library and selecting "Properties". In the popup, select the Betas tab and opt in to the beta.

You're entitled to run a parallel/second install with the same serial number, and that's highly recommended. There's usually at least a few "hiccups" with 3rd party addons that I wouldn't want to deal with when the Golden Release is running so well. @Patco Lch ETA: you can just run the installer from inside your current XP directory. It'll pick up your current serial number and then one of the options will be to "Install Another Copy of X-Plane". If you slim down the continents installed, it only takes up about 40GB of space. 👍 Edited December 19, 2025Dec 19 by UrgentSiesta
December 19, 2025Dec 19 Dev bog post about multi-threading: https://developer.x-plane.com/2025/12/the-glorious-multi-core-future-is-now-the-boring-present/ Quote While this goes on in the background, we are now also running the panels and avionic devices. This lets us effectively hide slower avionic updates, since X-Plane can go wide on crunching the scenery at that time. You will especially notice this with add-on aircraft that have very high panel draw times, but even our Garmin and built-in instruments aren’t totally free either. Q4XP users might want to take note of this. 1 hour ago, Pe11e said: Will test VR later, I hope for the best. I've seen slightly better performance in VR, but nothing that won't require dirty tricks (i.e. dynamic LOD distance adjustments) to produce more than 30 FPS consistently. Note: When in VR, make sure you switch of FXAA, as there is a bug at the moment that will cause a visual artifact. Hmmm, this issue should have been fixed a while ago as far as I know, are you sure it still exists? Do you have the xpd number for it? The way they've described this c check, now is absolutely the time to make sure all such persistent stupid glitches that are still around are reported and addressed.
