  • I've seen a substantial increase in FPS from the scenery changes in this, especially on large scenery areas.

  • Paging @DeltaWho: That is something I've NEVER seen before! 🙂 X-Plane 12.4b + Orbx TrueEarth Great Britain South over London downtown + Zibo 4K @ 2560x1080 Max World Objects, Max

  • Well what a nice surprise. Christmas has come a little early today even if its beta. 😁

@Litjan I got the usual beta release bug. My FPS seems higher 🤣

System Spec 1: Nvidia RTX 4090,  AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Res 5120x1440, HP Reverb G2
System Spec 2: AMD Radeon RX 7900XT, Intel I-9 9990K, Res 3840x1080, HP Reverb G2

No FPS increase but it seems a lot smoother thats for sure

Yes, but did it quadruple, like mine?? 🤣

I'm pretty stunned with this update.

After my recent memory stick woes I am running on one 16Gb memory stick only.  MemTest86 is showing My memory speed is 23Gb per sec instead of 56Gb per second when I had two sticks fitted.

As well as the PC crashing because of the faulty memory stick, I wasn't able to fly with the Map Enhancement Tool running - the log file was full of loading errors and long load times.

With 12.4 I was able to complete a three hour flight in the Flight Factor B757 at 60fps with SIM heaven and the Map Enhancement Tool running with no errors in the log file!

I cannot find your solution, what have you done and how to replicate that?

Ok, now get on to the scenery raster update, that should be the game changer for XP12

Motion vectors first, please. For scenery we have already excellent alternatives

Well it broke a couple of older conversions from XP11 to XP12 (In inexplicable ways and an afternoon of back and forth has not resolved the problems - piston engines that produce no real power. Usual routine, remove plugins, check scripts etc etc. Then I discovered my back and forth with planemaker somehow corrupted the apt.dat main file ( I had not touched any scenery at all) using stock only! Back to a fresh update download and fix up and back to it. LR's updater politely said I had modified the apt.dat file (after the system crashed on start up) did I want to overwrite it? Of course but how on earth did that happen, using stock airports etc etc.

Other than that - a quite noticeable increase in fps (airport and weather dependant on how much), shading is nice and skies ok. No other bugs that I could determine - yet. Not sure but I think planemaker.exe is doing something when it writes a modified acf that seems bizarre. Then again just could be my crappy Microsoft updates again!. AFL's auto updater hung the system again too.

I am now resigned to losing some oldies but goldies (refugees from bygone versions of XP) one by one as XP is changed and improved. Specifcally the Hydroz Catalina is now a bust and it looks like the Carenado PA31 even with the SimCoders mods has got the jitters as well.

so far I am liking the new beta 12.4 very much, the best I have seen after my 1 year hiatus.

how can I set a higher 2x2 K resolution for my VR headset when my monitor does only 1080p?

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Hm. I think this is very individual. To me this mod looks like rain when I’m driving a car with 60 Km/h. We don’t really see the impact of the speed of rain drops hitting the windshield as we would expect for a plane having a 5-15x higher speed. Aparantly the « warp speed » effect looks more like it does in real according to pilots, although of course not 100% perfect.

PlaneMaker was breaking 3D panel coordinates in ACF files for me until I found out that it simply (and utterly stupidly) uses whatever decimal sign is set by the system locale (at least on Linux). And if the locale is set to use comma instead of dot (as is done in this country), well...

I think my rain looks closer to real than what is given in XP12.

Hi,

This fix was designed for those of us that run full flight decks, I'm using the Zibo Mod 737NG airliner and removed the 3D flight deck with the exception of the glass screens,  wipers and gear that's required for pushback. There is no aircraft to look at in the exterior view, just keep that in mind.

When Zibo updates his aircraft file, I update the 3D rain effect so it's always up to date with Zibo's latest release.

What I really like about the edit during bad weather is the taxi out/in, makes moving the aircraft in inclement weather that much closer to real life. During flight the rain still needs some work. But no more star wars warp speed rain! Rain doesn't fly into you, it just falls and may get blow around a bit, but it doesn't fly into your aircraft as depicted in Xplane.

I got it loaded up yesterday. Symlinked in some scenery and a few different 3rd party aircraft for reference.

flew out of London City as that area (with Orbx TrueEarth GreatBritain) usually trashes my fps to well under 30fps.

I noticed a significant increase in fps - was up in the low 40’s, even facing all the downtown skyscrapers and such.

I kept to around 3k agl, and as I transited out through Heathrow, the fps improved to high 40s low 50s.

The Zibo, sadly, gave the worst performance of the several addons I tried, and reminded me why I avoid major urban centers (in sim and IRL!).

FWIW, I did the same flight in MSFS v2024 with the highly optimized brand new PMDG 738. While the fps was literally double, with scenery density much higher, there was constant stutter in both video and audio until I passed Heathrow (default airport).

TBH, the XP+Zibo+TrueEarth combo, while much slower and a bit chuggy, was relatively much smoother and more usable. 👍
