  1. Nice! Brought back lots of memories of this past summer: my wife and I did a river cruise down the Danube, from Nuremberg to Budapest. We stopped in Melk and explored the Abbey, and we went to the Schönbrunn-Palace as well. Loved Salzburg and Vienna!
  2. I fly three or four times per year, mostly for work (going to academic conferences). I always book a window seat: I love watching the scenery rolling by, and take offs and landings are so much more enjoyable when you can see them. I fly out of CYVR, and even when I've flown to the USA, the US Border and Customs Control Officers at Vancouver International have been polite and relatively friendly. Coming back into Canada after travelling internationally is never an issue, either. The few times when I've actually had to talk to a Canadian border official have been fine. The only real difficulties I experience is when I travel within Canada to smaller, regional airports. Security is far, far tighter in these places--unnecessarily so. It seems unlikely that people might want to highjack or blow up a DHC-8-100 departing from Cranbrook, BC (CYXC) or Prince George, BC (CYXS), yet I have been hassled over a container of skin cream medicine that was over the 100 ml size in Prince George when I wasn't even asked about it in Vancouver. I think it was around 120 ml, as if 20 ml would make a difference. Oh well ... small price to pay to be safe, I guess.
  3. My current rig is now six years old (i7-2600K, 8 megs RAM, GTX 760, etc. etc. etc.), so it's now starting to show its age. Funny thing is that I'm thinking about upgrading, too. As for my wife, she loves jewellery ... the "real" stuff, not costume jewellery (think Tiffany), so the amount that I'm planning to spend is very much offset by how much we spend in shiny objects. :-) As a result, she's good with my sim addiction and the need to upgrade every four to six years.
  4. Try checking the controller assignments in P3D and delete any assignments of axes. I run all of my controllers through FSUIPC.
  5. Totally with you all these. I've flown the Metro a lot and miss it. Isn't Milviz doing an ATR-72? I'm afraid the 767, ERJ, and E-jet are goners for v4.
  6. Mostly ... Orbx airports and Aerosoft Airbus.
  7. It sounds as if something isn't working properly. I have a now-ancient i7-2600k with a 760, and I'm getting very good frame rates with similar settings. I keep Vsync on with triple-buffering, and I don't experience any screen tearing, so something must be amiss.
  8. I haven't bought the 747 or 777 for v4 yet. I have the NGX for v3.4, so I'm waiting for it to be made compatible with v4. I have the TFDI 717 for v4 and installed it last night. I flew from CYVR (my home airport) to KSEA. I don't have any addon airports in v4 at present. Frames were really good at CYVR (17 to 19 fps with the framerate capped at 20), but approaching KSEA, things got choppy, so I had to turn down a number of graphics settings (2048 textures -> 1024, autogen dense -> normal, etc.). I had good framerates after that, and the sim still looked good. Lesson learned, though: I need to have two configs, one for GA aircraft, one for tubeliners.
  9. My system is quite similar. With equivalent settings, I perceive v4 to be smoother than FSX or v3.4. I currently have my framerates set to 20 fps, with vsync on and triple buffering. I have autogen set on. I've turned dynamic vegetation (is that the correct name?) set off. Can't remember my other settings right now, as I'm at Starbucks enjoying a cold brew coffee. :-) Regardless, as I mentioned, that's my perception, on my computer. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. YMMV.
  10. Can I change my vote? :-) My P3D v3.4 stopped working for some reason (initial boot-up screen, then CTD). Since I was planning to go to v4 at some point anyway, I bought it and installed it on Friday night. Wow. Even with my now somewhat ancient system (i7-2700K, nVidia 760), I'm not going back to v3.4: similar but better framerates, and a much smoother experience).
  11. Proud to be a Canadian, especially in these times. Happy Canada Day, everyone!
  12. Update: after e-mailing PCAviator for a second time, I received an updated download link that allowed me to download the Carenado C337H.
  13. Like Neal, I've e-mailed but no reply. I'm getting the same problem with the download link as well.
  14. I hasn't worked for me yet. Like you, there's no download link.
  15. I made the switch in June last year, and I'm glad I did. I've got a somewhat long-in-the-tooth system (i7-2600K, nVidia 760), but even so, I can run P3D so that it looks much better than FSX did at the same frame rates ... I lock mine at 20 fps to make things as smooth as possible--few if any stutters as a result. I find the interior shadowing alone adds so much to realism, as well as the HDR effects. Wow! I could never do that with FSX and maintain an almost stutter-free experience.
  16. Very cool! I own an EREV (extended range electric vehicle), a 2017 Volt, so I'm really interested to see where this project ends up.
  17. Since I live in Greater Vancouver, CZBB, otherwise known as Boundary Bay Airport. See here for more info.
  18. Is the optimize parts issue in P3D (for which Ryan Butterworth provided the solution below) still a problem, or has that been solved via a subsequent update?
