Pacific Northwest scenery (bush flying) is almost there

Thanks for the ban mods, it was well-deserved I thought.Let me say though in defence, that Orbx never announces release dates. Never have, never will. What I did say quite a few times was "we're aiming for Christmas"; which we truly did - but as my co-developers here will agree, it's impossible to deliver a release date in the software business, unless you're a console developer who had already handed over RTM code to a publisher. That said, we're very pleased there are eager customers spawning topics like these because it tells us clearly that quite a few folks are keen to experience PNW.You've got to remember that AVSIM forum rules specifically prevent a developer from posting topics about unreleased products, so neither my staff or myself will ever do so. Of course, we do appreciate it when there are spontaneous topics like these begun, because we can answer questions from potential customers. Other developers are in the same boat too.As far as PNW's release is concerned, we're 98% done with the actual content; these past weeks have been spent on performance tuning, which is still ongoing.

Cheers,

John Venema

Nobody's banned.......yet. We're usually a bit generous just in case it's the scotch talking, or maybe someone just had a bad day. We lose our generosity when warnings aren't adhered to though.

I've got my fingers crossed for the airports just north of the border (CYVR and CYYJ)!!!
CYYJ already exists as part of the excellent (free) Victoria+ scenery. If you do not have that yet, suggest downloading it from the Avsim library.Jon Patch has indicated that it will be made compatible with Pacific NW once it is out.

OMG.... That was a nasty remark FSFlyer. Maybe a little anger management is in your future. Geez, I have seen some heated debates in my time on these forums but that was just down right wrong!BG

An observation with Orbx and PNW is the bar is much higher this time...AU was probably one of the worst default locations for out of the box FSX,so when local users seen the changes made, it was stunning indeed. But much of the current PNW area most of us fly today with common addons, thanks to Holger's great free and payware products, GEX , and UTX looks excellent already. The Orbx forum does get a little over the top with endless praises every time a screen shot is posted. Many of the shots are zoomed out to 30% and heavy with clouds and lighting effects. What I have seen is fine, in some the trees dont seem to blend well, but is it really that different from using the products above?Anyhow, I'm looking forward to PNW since its one of Holger's products. He has given so much for free to the community over the yearswe should all reward his payware efforts in return. I'm curious to see how flights from Victoria to Vancouver to Hope, etc will compare to the already great renderings I see now.

They are just extremely proud of what they do. Plus they are selling a product. No different to selling a house.
Not going to be the first on the bandwagon though. Been burned too many times lately.
If Orbx are burning people, rest assured they'll probably end up starting some cool new fad where people are queuing up to get burnt, I'll have what he's having... ooh yeah burn me it feels great.

Is this supposed to be some kind of poetry? Its formatted like a poem :( Graham

Oh yes, I definitely think so. Why? Because the landclass is far, far more detailed than UTX. Besides that I like the textures better than GEX.For example, browse the Orbx forums for shots of the flatlands in the area; not a single addon comes close.

Then in 2011 we will roll out KSEA, KPDX, KBFI and some other majors. Stay tuned, we're here for the long run :(
Wow, I didn't know it was going to be another year before we see a new KSEA and KPDX. Those two airports were the two main things I was looking forward to in the PNW since I fly airliners mostly. Guess I will need to break out the Kodiak and start doing some low and slow in the area while I wait.

Anyone who thinks that FTX is like anything else that has yet been seen by another developer does not own a copy of the AU regions. UTX, GEX, and Tongass Fjords are good work, perhaps even great, but they still do not come near to what ORBX has been able to do. FTX scenery is a cut or so above the very best. Without first hand experience flying in FTX, there is no possible way for anyone to even understand what they don't understand. I don't think ORBX will have any trouble selling PNW copies to everyone who knows a thing or two about what they bring to the table. Once FTX experienced it is impossible to be satisfied anywhere else. This is a taste it and see thing. The proof is in the eating, and only in the eating.Stephen

It's formatted. Something that it seems is no longer taught in schools :)Poetry not sure, it may offer some rhythm and rhetoric.

Now that with be a great combination. I suppose living in the southern part of Vancouver Island we are able to admire how well CYYJ and surrounding area including Victoria have been so beautifully and accurately reproduced by the teams involved. Pacific Northwest will add icing to the cake. Gary :(

Hi jackcnd - I agree with the above statement but would like to add that as a Yank (a local only in the virtual world) who has enjoyed freeware VOZ in the "old" days, FTX Australia is beyond stunning. When you add the freeware 300 + airports from OZx and those of Anthony Lynch, the word stunning isn't descriptive enough. An easy and free way to see what has captivated so many us (locals and others) is available with a free demo of the island of Tasmania. It's an unrestricted demo and you could add the freeware OZx and Anthony's airfields as well. This could be a good preview of the quality of work produced by Orbx.I also agree with you about Holger, whatever has his name on it looks good.... I'm also looking forward to PNW and other future work he's involved with.Have a good day. Howard
stupid idiots following orbx like fools
What's idiotic about the people who follow ORBX products? There's nothing stupid about liking the best scenery available for FSX is there? You seem to have a major attitude problem. You come across like a jealous developer of inferior products, though i doubt your clever enough to develop anything.Anyhow, back on topic..... Can't wait for the release chaps. PNW is going to kick so much butt going by the previews and the quality of the rest of your work. This was always the area i spent most of my time flying in during the FS9 days. I'll be setting up an AirHauler base and doing my virtual deliveries for many years to come in the PNW region. It's going to be a blast! Just don't be to long getting Orcas Island finished please :)
