Which business jet? F1 Cessna Mustang?

Featured Replies

How do the ESDG Citation X Extreme V2.0 and Flight1 Mustang compare with regard to effect on system performance?
On my system the X runs a heck of a lot better than the Mustang - normally on the ground with 20-25 fps against 15 (ish) for the mustang. I guess that is the payback for it looking so good !!G

That LionHeartCreations Victory looks pretty kewl. I just might get that one.

Check out the Lionheart Creations Epic Victory. It is supposed to be really nice as well. It is also distributed by Flight1 so it too comes with a 30-Day money back garutee.http://www.lionheartcreations.com/Victory.html
Where is this aircraft at Flight1? I can't find it. lol

I went the other way around! Purchased the F1 Mustang, got in a serious pickle with it with regard to crashing (the computer not the aircraft), followed the numerous modifications required to make this product work .. then bought the Realair Duke! The Duke purchase was about 6 weeks a go and I just noticed it has an engine Hobbs meter and was shocked to see that I have already flown 80 hours in it! Oh dear, I am meant to be running a business!!The real world Duke is nearly as good as the Realair one... but not quite! Big%20Grin.gif Totally brilliant, I wish Realair would try a business jet next!I fly real world weather on highest detail setting and will not compromise on that, which presented me with all sorts of problems flying in bad weather in busy traffic areas with the F1 Mustang. I use Ultimate traffic 2 but without autogen (which in my opinion is un-realistic anyway), I am never quite sure if I am going to emerge from the bottom of the cloud without a computer crash ... even now when I have a beautifully tuned FSX config I still worry! Then I discovered the Duke!I suggested to F1 on the 'secret squirrel' customer only forum that perhaps they should have made a version without the opening drawers full of labeled alcahol and drunk looking pilot leaning on the wing plus all the other frame heavy eye candy.... but was told that they were not prepared to 'dumb down' the product. Shame, because it rather dumbs down the whole FSX experiance when you have to move all the sliders port to enable your computer to cope! I apparently have a near top of the range computer too!Being a pilot not a computer expert this may sound daft but surely during the development of the product it is a simple thing to develop the very good cockpit and excellent rendition of the Garmin 1,000 then press save to create a light verson. From there they can continue onward for those who enjoy the eye candy!Others have done it, Realair to a certain extent on the Duke (though it doesn't seem to need it) and the MAM B25 (with three versions) come to mind but there are lots more.In the meantime I will certainly look further at the Eaglesoft Citation.May I reccomend a very good and very free weather program from fs.open.com. With the reduced visibility setting you can reduce cloud draw considerably and it is amazing how realistic the weather is! In my experiance in real flying it is very rare indeed to encounter that unlimited visibility effect you seem to get with the FSX weather engine.Sorry if I have repeated things here that have already been covered, I admit to have only surfed the forum briefly, I am too lazy to post more often! :(

Can't argue with the fact that the Lionheart Victory is the golden gem of all BizJet simulations in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The Sorcerer TruTrak is very easy to use, yet being more powerful than the usual Bendix-King types we'd usually find in general aviation aircraft. The G1000 itself is a work of art, given that it is made to suit both the advanced and novice simmers, being more advanced than the default G1000 but less powerful than the G1000s of the likes of Flight1. I never found myself suffering from stutters, yet again, it falls 16% short of the A2A B-17G. Dave.

Which probably sums up your attitude!Look, I fully admit to being a computer user NOT an expert or a genius developer like yourself ... but it would have been nice to have turned the key and gone, as with 99% of the other products I have tried! The Mustang is an excellent and very accurate product but for a non-techy like myself , I honestly found it easier and quicker to prep and brief for a 747 trans-oceanic in real life than to set up my computer to incorperate all the tweaks needed to make the Mustang work. All I suggested was a 'lite' version to enable IFR flight through a busy weather and traffic enviroment without dragging frame rate hungry eye candy behind me. The cockpit is the most important place for me to be and yours with the Garmin 1,000 is brilliant! As I said, many other developers have made it easier for non-computer minded idiots such as myself!

Why start a food fight? Real pilots are usually unfamiliar with the FS world and its limitations. One does not simply "turn the key" and presto you have a "lite version" of a complex set of avionics and beautiful visuals. As a real pilot and a developer I can say that doesn't happen in either the FS world or the real world. The System Tweak world is not directly FS or Developer related but rather System related and has become a craze of sorts. There are many tweak threads on this site but one should not confuse personal system tweaks with a developers product.
"As I said, many other developers have made it easier....."
If they did they lost the depth of realism as contained in the F1 Mustang...:(

My attitude has nothing to do with it. But my point is that we don't have some magic button that instantly plops out a dumbed down model. Nor does one exist. And for every person that would want a dumbed down model, there are 10 more that want it the way it is. Actually if there is any hit, it is because there are 3 big glass displays that render more moving map information than about anything else out there. So removing cabinets and the like in the VC wont change anything. The Mustang was developed to please Cessna first and foremost and they were very happy with the results. The Mustang certainly expects a system that at very least is well maintained. But there is an awful, awful lot of things going on in the Mustang. One thing about the Mustang is that it will only get better as mainstream computers continue to get better and better, but that said, FSX is a pig in its own right and does require fine tuning if you are pushing the envelope. That will always be a factor for FSX. Many people run the Mustang quite well on even moderate systems but they are diligent with maintaining a well tuned FSX / Computer system. FSX is like an erector set. We have no idea what parts, what drivers, what add-ons, what the maintenance and condition of a persons computer is and many times they do not even know, which adds to the frustration level . The Mustang requires a user that understands this or is willing to try to. But if you are willing, the experience is one of the best available in FSX and it is not in the 99% club so assuming some other aircraft works fine, has no relevance with respect to the Mustang. But no, we have no plans to make a dumbed down Mustang.Regards,Jim

You know you can just save a default flight with engines on, then load the Mustang, and you're ready to go. I know it's recommended to load the Trike or whatever but I never do. Sometimes I'll load the C510 right from the menu and fly. With engines running all you really need is to set flaps for takeoff, set throttle to TO or CLB, and, well, takeoff. Dial in some altitude or a heading and you're good to go. Then you can easily tune in a VOR on the PFD if you're wanting to avoid the G1000. But I find the G1000 pretty intuitive to use. Other tube liners take far longer to setup correctly, FMS initialization stuff, etc etc.I recommend giving the Mustang another try. Personally I have to disable the copilot PFD, inhibit the small inset window on the pilot pfd, and run the MFD without terrain (because my PC is really old), but it helps with the FPS. Or you can always run it in 2D cockpit, the fps are much better, and you still receive the functionality.

The Flight1 Mustang is a work of art. It runs great on my Q9550 powered PC, with most detail sliders set to the far right. It looks amazing, it handles superbly, and the fact that it can be flown in and out of lots of relatively short strips is a huge bonus. I have those three glass displays active at all times, and the framerate is fine when panning around the 3D virtual cockpit. Mind you, I do suspect that my tendency to fly the plane in "low speed, low level VFR mode" (the only area of the flight envelope that I am interested in) helps to keep the framerates smooth, since that allows my PC to load new objects and textures at a more relaxed pace.Whatever the case, I am extremely grateful to Flight1 (and Cessna) for maintaining the very highest standards for this aircraft, in all departments :Applause:PS. I have never had any problems getting this aircraft to work on my (Vista64) PC. I haven't even had to use the official Flight1 safe startup flight! My usual routine is to load a previously saved flight, and then change the parameters (airport/weather conditions/fuel load etc) from there. The only persistent problem I experience is when trying to exit to the FSX startup menu after a flight. This results in a fatal error (followed by FSX being restarted), but that is hardly a major issue to me.

Let me add my 2c... Just took the Mustang for a quick flight out of KTPA... flew along the coast a bit and landedwith a fully coupled LPV approach active. This is one really nicely made aircraft!!It looks great, handles well, and the instrumentation is first class.I have no performance problems on my Q6600 @ 3.2 - flying with the little mapon the PFD turned off and with the MFD at -2 level declutter.Every time I fly this aircraft, I am again impressed with the quality!ps and yes Jim, I still do not understand why you guys have not releaseda little patch to move the click-spot for the vertical speed wheel on the APin the VC, so that it does not overlap onto the VS button :(

Because only one person ever complained about it.... :(

Hello JimBut if that one person had been the CEO of Cessna you would have fixed it , right?

Hello JimBut if that one person had been the CEO of Cessna you would have fixed it , right?
Maybe yes, maybe no. I would tell Jack the same thing I am telling you.1 person usually means a preference rather than a problem. I personally haven't seen the problem nor obviously have many others. That does not qualify for an entirely new build / version, patch, questions about "what version do I need?" etc. etc. Some people have so many add-ons installed and personalized custom tweaks running it is hard to qualify what they are seeing and what they are not.But when the masses see something that is causing them problems, that's a needed fix.Nice try though....Jim
