The good old default Cessna 172 I fly it more than anything else - usually on endless 'tweak' test flights. So it's the one I keep coming back to.Ian

For me it the LDS767. I have probably about 97% of my flying time in that. Makes me wonder why I even buy any other planes because they all end up collecting dust.As soon as the PMDG NGX comes out I will probably never touch the LDS767 anymore since thats the one plane I have been missing since going to FSX a few years ago.
as much as i am looking forward to the NGX's release, i feel that nothing can replace the the 767, except maybe their 757 :D

I have always gotten back to the PMDG 747 at some point. Now that I have the iFly 737, I think the PMDG 747 will find it'll have some competition. And, though it may sound weird, the Wilco Airbus has also seen its fair share of the FS world.

Am really enjoying Ant's Tecnam Sierra at the moment but it'll have a tough fight with the Katana. Or I'll fly them on alternate days...Overall theme(s)? Simple airplanes done in depth, lots of atmosphere, challenging but not too challenging workload, and fluid performance with a sense of mass and inertia.Oh, and great soundsets. Can't overestimate the importance of sound to the sense of being there.

Nice question, because you don't focus on what's the best, the most realistic or so… Good approach of our diversity. Never tired of LVD 767, PMDG MD-11 (waaaaw) and J41, real air SF260, VRS superbug, aerosoft F16. Always something new in those, always good flights with a lot of immersion. But I'm not original... More controversial are the embraer by feelthere, especially the 170. Nice plane in the real world, fun to fly and pretty good in the FS world, IMHO. Like it. CS c-130. I live nearby the belgian basis of ours, they are very honourable workhorses and I'm please to "fly" with them in a more than decent imitation. Flight1 Pilatus PC12 is not yet mentionned here. If I was a bit disappointed by the conversion for FSX, I always come back to it. In the same range, I was never tired of my aeroworx b200. Miss her on FSX. But if I'm honest, the two who always come back on my "free flight" window are :

  • Iris pilatus PC-9. I can write two pages on the defaults and the lacks of this plane, but it's a really good piece of fun, nice to fly, not too easy, and useable in many circumstances…
  • Skysim Hawk, by Rick Piper : it's a shame that this one is not everywhere, on every computer running FSX. Nice, from the external model to the VC, hard but fun to fly well, useable in large variety of situations, from sightseeing to acrobatics, a very clever simulation by a very talented man (I don't know him, btw), one of the first real FSX add-on. I pass on FSX to have it, and was not disappointed. This time… When I'm tired of flightsimming, I fly with this Hawk, from a known airoport to an unknown. And the fun comes back.

Since I'm reading you for so long, I didn't realise it was my firts post here. Rude. So, hello everybody. Nice to talk with you. Thanks for the amount of valuable informations you gave me here, I hope I will participate the same way from time to time. Nicolas G.

Such a good question, interesting reading too. I have thought about trying the Eaglesoft Citation X and the PMDG MD11 but have just done it. The LDS 767 is just too good, runs like a dream on my rig and the complex system integration on the model just can't be beat IMHO.Bob

  • 2 weeks later...
I think I've been flying the PMDG 747-400F since the day it came out on FS9 to now in FSX... with a break a few months at a time and after my computer broke and building a new one... What planes do people always go back to?
I can never get into the 747 .. its international flight equipment and i never have a time or patience for a 8 hr flight.  Are you flying the long hauls or are you just using your 747 for an hour flight?I like my PMDG J41,
