You are right. The intentional "hard" center is still there though, which was the most annoying thing for me.
I'm not sure about airliners but I think the control column does center on most of them like the 737. This is mainly because the trim moved the whole stabilizer instead of a trim tab. I find that the Saitek doesn't have a very hard center at all. Sometimes I'm hand flying and think it's centered, turn on the A/P and let go to realize it wasn't. Maybe yours is still new. On that note though, although the stab trim on the 717 obviously moves the whole stabilizer, it doesn't center the column. While taxiing, it's nice to push it forward out of the way and in flight, the air flowing over the control tabs are more than enough to center it anyway. You would not believe how much force is required to flare during landing. As a disclamer, I have a friend who works for Hawaiian and my experience is only on the 717 sim, not the real bird. But he assures me even he needs 2 hands on the wheel to flare at work.
And how long does that take for you?
About 2 weeks for the FCOM and 1 for the FCTM. But I really stuck to it (and was on christmas vacation for work and had nothing better to do).

What exactly do you want to hear? That Boeing's own material is wrong about how their own airplane looks? That's what the truth is if there's really all these "flaws" in the model - we got the blueprints/diagrams and measurements straight from them. I really think a lot of this is due to the fact that FSX is not a photo of a real object - there is ALWAYS some distortion that occurs when you try to project 3D objects in a game engine like this. The model's actual measurements could be exactly perfect and things could still look off vs. a photo because of the way those 3D coordinates are translated into what you see on the screen in 2D. I'll talk to Jason and Vin about it, but they're going to tell me the same thing they have on almost all of these comments - it's straight from the Boeing data and we'd be changing what they gave us to use.

I really think a lot of this is due to the fact that FSX is not a photo of a real object - there is ALWAYS some distortion that occurs when you try to project 3D objects in a game engine like this. While I am in no way concerned about these perspective distortions of the NGX in FSX, I wonder if the developers could show the plane as viewed not in FSX, but in the 3d rendering app. As evidenced in other preview shots of projects for this and other flight simulator birds, these 3d renders are just plain awesome looking vs the final game render due to accurate lighting and shadows (and outside reflections on the paint as seen in the initial outside NGX shots from Facebook ;>) If the developers have the time, would it be worth comparing the 3d app shots vs the FSX shots to see if FSX does in fact produce distortions from the real life perspective?

Hello everybody!I wanted to share a few thoughts with you.First - even though it has been repeated many times, I think it should be repeated over and over - congratulations for the PMDG team for the highest ambitions, and as it starts to turn out now - for the product that matches these ambitions. From what I can this is going to be really awesome! The thing that I'm most happy about is, that for the first time really, it seems I will be able to trust, that anything that happens to the airplane, and every little interior or exterior part of the airplane I can see, is as realistic as it can be. That I can learn from the behavior of the airplane, and trust this is not an oversimplification. The thing that I'm particularly keen on is the "logic of the onboard systems" part of realism. I like the idea that small troubles now can lead to bigger troubles later. What I fear is that most of the effort put into the realistic making of those systems will go unnoticed. I hope some day somebody will create a number of scenarios, or missions, that will focus on these complexities of the aircraft simulation, such that on a certain point of flight a preprogrammed system breaks down, then maybe another one (following a coherent scenario), and this will be the pilot's task to figure out whats actually going on, and circumventing any serious risk to the airplane. This could be based on some real accidents, technical reports, or just imagination. It would be a great way to learn about the aircraft and practise real-time decision making under a stress situation (unless somebody pauses the game ;-) ).Keep up the good work!
Well written post. It would be great, through advanced tutorials or weekly/monthly info posts or bulletins to fully utilise the systems - would be great way to appreciate the hard work, thousands of hours on programming the code that PMDG have done to make this the most realistic simulation ever. I understand also that would take a lot of resource time and effort to do (as other projects are to follow) but would be great to learn the troubleshooting against all the warnings,displays and intricate sytems they have developed.

MD11 J41 747 NGX . . awaiting 777 !!!

Most of those things are done with .fx files, not animations and are already in. Water drops on the windshield take a ton of animations to do though in FSX because you can't animate textures the way you could in FS9 - every drop is it's own animation. Highly unlikely we will be doing those - it caused problems in the J41 anyway.
I can't see the point of having raindrops on the windows if you can't clear them off with the wipers, used to love this effect in FS9, shame it can't be done easily with FSX.

Well I still use FS9 and while the raindrop effect on the VC windscreen is good, it is not true that the wipers clear them off. I've looked closely on the 737NG, the 744 and the MD11 and it doesn't happen.Iain Smith

hi PMDG team i would like to ask u 1 thing: this time we will see the glass inside cockpit view? coz 747x and md11 doesnt have it. the all the fsx default planes and most payware have it. if its not clear what i mean i can post some screenshot. the pmdg j41 has it (my fd confirmed it few days ago)thx in advanceDavide Lee

However, I couldn't help but notice a few things here and there, maybe it's just my old eyes but in the hopes of having you bring us this amazing bird, with no flaws, I feel as though I should point these out. 1. There is texture stretching on the wheel rims
As a former rampie, I can tell you that it's not texture stretching, it's brake dust/grime. When the wheels get wet, water pulls the brake dust and grit from behind the wheel and it flows through those holes and shows up as black streaks. European cars are notorious for this as well. Same radial lines, depending on the wheel type. If my car gets gritty enough, I'll snap a picture for you.Your point number two is pretty picky, but also note that all of the shots you show are at different angles - not saying you're wrong, but for a design group that was given access to Boeing's inner data, you'd think they'd know what they're doing.

I love the rain effect on the on the VC windows, the RealAir Duke has a very cool effect, its my understanding that MS cut something out of the SDK, and because of this developers have to go to great lengths to put them back in. It would be nice to see this but you can't have everythingbiggrin.gif The rain and snow in fsx are so bad anyways, I really and truly wonder how it ever got the stamp of approval in the first place.
