August 25, 201114 yr I just wondered what zoom value most of you set when in the VC. With some settings on the winglet model I can see the winglet over my left shoulder when in the left seat. Is this correct? Should this be seen? This is the problem with so many settings. Which one is best? I don't have TrackIR btw and don't want it. Iain Smith
August 25, 201114 yr Personal preferance really !! 0.5 gives a very realistic view.Very similar to the real thing. Frederic Steiner.
August 25, 201114 yr I'd say .40x, not to contradict you, Frederic. Once you get used to it, this seems to give the most realistic sense of motion when near the ground or clouds. It also simulates nicely peripheral vision (which actually ties into the sense of motion, of course). ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

August 25, 201114 yr PMDG recommend 0.60 in the Introduction Manual. I find that works well for me. Any wider than that and the display takes on a fisheye look. Kevin Hall
August 25, 201114 yr The problem is when you zoom out too much, like 0.40 or below. The world just doesn't look right, Runway seems very small and far away, instruments are harder to read and it looks like you are looking through a fisheye lens.If you are using a widescreen monitor make sure to set WideViewAspect=True in the fsx.cfg file. Im using 0.70 with a 16:9 monitor Tobias
August 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks guys. I usually use 0.4 but I'll try the PMDG recommendation although 0.6 seems as if you'd be too close to the panel/windshield. Iain Smith
August 25, 201114 yr I use 0.8 but the default view is a bit too close, I'll lean forward a bit then centre the view with track IR. This puts your head nearer the head rest on the seat. I think the default view is sat too far forward in the seat. This way the view is perfect and the MCP looks the right size as if I could actually just reach out and touch it.Dan.

August 26, 201114 yr .4 is what I use.I get the best outside view for me at that zoom and then move the chair up some.Everyone will choose something different so choose what you like/are comfortable with. "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
August 26, 201114 yr I go with 0.4, seems the best compromise - then zoom in to adjust anything I need to .. .. G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron
August 26, 201114 yr Moderator This is going to sound funny, but to get my zoom point I actually compared a real life setting to what I saw in the sim. A friend of mine who lives near DFW let me borrow his lap top which has FSX and the LDS 767 installed on it. I took it and drove over to the spotting location at DFW know as founders plaza and parked facing south at the UPS ramp. I then booted up FSX with the LDS 767 and selected 18R which was near where I parked. My buddy had FSDT's KDFW installed so I slewed the 767 over to founders plaza and parked it aproximately in the same place I was parked. Then I played with the zoom levels to try and emulate what I was seeing and the field of view out the windshield of my car vs. looking out the VC of of the 767.For me a zoom level of .75 to .79 seemed to be about right when comparing the two side by side and looking straight ahead. Granted if I kept my head still and looked left or right using my peripheral vision the field of view was greater, but since I dont do that in real life and generally turn my head to look, I settled with using .75 as a normal setting, then adjusting my pov in the sim using EZdok so that it didn't look like I was flying from the back seat like you see in some youtube FSX videos.Of course everyone likes a different setting, but for myself I think I finally found a good setting after years of fiddling around with it.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
