September 25, 201114 yr Hey Pilots, Im curious, what is the average cost index for a regular, economical 737NGX flight? I know what CI means and what it calculates, but I'm curious as to what you guys input for that value? ThanksMax Max PMDG 747X & 737NGX Pilot
September 25, 201114 yr Heck, it's virtual gas so I don't give a hoot...haha for me its at least in the 70-90 range. I'll bump it up to 150 occasionally. Patrick Houghton
September 25, 201114 yr 25 or 30 ...500 for a quicktest on a short flight like go around or other things P.L. TranAMD Ryzen 5800x; 32 GB Ram; EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3; Win10 64 Bit
September 25, 201114 yr 100: It's a good average value which is not too far off what most airlines use and it works with both Classics and NGs, since they have a different CI range on their FMCs. I will sometimes be more precise when using Air Hauler and aiming for fuel economy (since you actually do have to pay for fuel in AH LOL). I do also sometimes change for other unusual circumstances, such as when tankering fuel, but that's not often, most of the time I just sling that 100 value in. September 25, 201114 yr My virtual airline assigns us the cost index for each flight. Max is 30 for us. I remember flying with the SunExpress crew in May 2011, i checked the FMC and it was 7, which is quite low IMO. There are airlines which go with 99 as well, :( Three greens! Aykut Onur Öztürk

It might have been a normal number before the oil prices skyrocketed. I rarely hear about any airline using more than 40 CI. Personally I use 15 or 16 ... unless I'm behind schedule. If im behind schedule I might crank it up to around 80 Johan Pettersen

I rarely hear about any airline using more than 40 CI. That's true, but you'll note that I said it was a good average which works with the NG and Classics, i.e. it's a good average a period of time including back to the mid 1980s when the Classic showed up, not necessarily for today (one of things we can do in a sim that you cannot do in real life of course). When I'm trying to save fuel costs in AH, I use other values. What you also have to understand about CI, is that it is not as simple as just the fuel burn where economy is concerned; you can actually be more economical by using more fuel to climb quicker, since you get up to cruise altitude quicker and then throttle back, so the engines are at a high throttle setting for less time because the climb is quicker, which prolongs their life by reducing the overall stresses on the engine, and thus it is another way to reduce costs. September 25, 201114 yr I generally use between 40 and 100 depending on the flight conditions.I have to say that it's the first time CI is so well implemented with a progressive variation of the FF which looks very realistic and a very precise input on the ETA predictions.Very well done indeed. - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.
