October 9, 201114 yr I have a very vague memory of a movie that I watched as a kid. I believe that it was about an aircraft carrier group that got sucked into some kind of time warp out at sea. They are transported back in time to some strategic battle which may have been Pearl Harbor or something like that. Then these modern day fighters go up against WWII era fighters. I was very impressed as a kid. Unfortunately it is only a recollection. Maybe someone here could help with the name. That would be The Final Countdown. of the Nimitz going through the Time Portal. Note the first indication the Portal is near is the crew starts speaking in french. Cheers, - jahman.

October 9, 201114 yr Commercial Member No joke, I have both. One Six Left is 'The Making of One Six Right'. The documentary was really well made on the hurdles it took this young filmmaker (I think in his early twenties) to complete this project, plus outtakes, and sound track music. October 9, 201114 yr I agree re 'Flight of the Phoenix' - the original was a classic, with a genuine war hero as the star, the great James Stewart. The recent remake was monumentally awful - one to avoid IMO.

There's a few other good Aviation documentary type movies on HULU. "Speed and Angels", there is a good aviation documentary series, called "The Aviators", which explore different topics related to Aviation. October 9, 201114 yr Actually Cliff Robertson passed away last month. Great guy with some great film credits as well.
October 10, 201114 yr I am trying to find a nice plane movie for an inflight movie Among the list of my FS-Passenger add-on movies - the one that always gets shown first for any flight longer than 3 hours, is the "The Godfather". Classic man... Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
October 10, 201114 yr Here's a few good ones worth a look.. The Hunters (1958) - probably the best jet fighter movie ever, it features the F-86 Saber and has some good aerobatic sequences with that aircraft. The Thousand Plane Raid (1969) - this one is cheesy and some of the green-screening is a bit naff (watch for the dodgy Spitfire mock up), but it has a lot of good flying in it, including the best B-17 stunt you'll ever see (you will know the one I mean when you see it, because your jaw will be on the floor). Strategic Air Command (1955) An intruiging movie which features a lot of early USAF jet bombers such as the B-47 Stratojet. Very authentic, this is one for anyone who likes big jet bombers. Flight of the Phoenix (1965) Quite simply one of the best movies of all time, with one of the best ensemble casts of all time too, beware of the appallingly awful 2004 remake, which is a very pale imitation of the original classic, the original 1965 version directed by Robert Aldrich is the one you want, the remake DVD will serve as a coaster for your cofffee mug at a push. Flight of the Intruder (1991) A great movie based on US Navy bombing missions flown from carriers into North and South Vietnam in the Stephen Coonts novel of the same name, its success was somewhat stymied by the fact that its release coincided with the build up to the first Gulf War, but this is the movie which the appallingly bad Top Gun desperately wanted to be. Its main character - Jake Grafton - is played by Brad Johnson, who also shows up again as a pilot in... Always (1989) A movie about firefighting aircraft and the risks the pilots of such craft take, which is excellent and features a lot of great old aircraft converted into firebombers. This movie was also Audrey Hepburn's last film, and she is as beautiful as ever in it. Given the themes about death and such which Always covers in a much better way than the soppy ''Ghost'' chick flick of the following year managed, Hepburn's appearance in it, just three and a half years before she herself died, adds a poignant touch to a truly great movie which will make you cry. It also has a fairly stellar cast too, which doesn't hurt. Anyone who likes aeroplanes who does not love this movie, has no heart. This is one even your girlfriend/wife will like. Turbulence (1997) This is a great fun movie, actually quite authentic too as far as the flying bits go, even including a dramatic scene involving programming the FMC, which is not something you see in many airliner flicks. It features a real airline too - Tower Air - which is another unusual thing for a movie of this nature. Ray Liotta is at his over-the-top best in this movie. Don't forget the popcorn. Aces High (1976) One of the better WW1 air combat movies - it is based on several novels and autobiographies by genuine WW1 combat pilots. Filmed in Ireland, it is one of the few WW1 air combat movies which has authentic-looking terrain below the aircraft. The Blue Max (1966) Another good WW1 air combat movie, lots of Fokker Dr1s, DVIIs and a nice Pfalz (all replicas), it is made with loving attention to detail and centres around a good storyline which mirrors the experiences of the many WW1 aces who started out as foot sloggers. The Great Waldo Pepper (1975) One of the classic aeroplane movies, centred around the post-WW1 Flying Circus craze and Hollywood movies of the 1920s, it features a large number of really superb stunts, mostly with Curtis JN-1s, but there are some good stunts with WW1 replicas in it as well. Fantastic storyline too which will appeal to anyone who ever wanted to be a fighter pilot. The Battle of Britain (1969) Authentic blow-by-blow retelling of Britain's 'finest hour' it features many genuine Spitfires and Hurricanes, plus plenty of Casa 112s (Spanish licensed-built versions of the bf-109 with a Merlin engine) and genuine He-111s. Great soundtrack and a big, star-studded cast, there will probably never be another movie made which has so many genuine aircraft from the real period in it. Al Don't forget "The High and the Mighty" - John Wayne starring, based on an Ernest K. Gann novel... the movie that inspired "Airplane". DJ
October 11, 201114 yr I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already but "12 O'Clock High" should be in everyone's top 3 list. Alexander Alonso
